did a little more over the weekend we got the guttering up before it rained 2 buts filled in under 1 hour! i need more buts!
also got the back door on and the door jam for the front and rear doors so it is now water tight

My water but on the shed has an overflow pipe into the surface water drain - for when it is full, which it is right now

I have no drains at the far end of the garden unfortunatly, it looks like I need to put some plastic or DPC between the roof sheet and into the gutter as not all of the rain fall goes into the gutter because of the 4 deg pitch on the tin roofit runs off the edge and down the facia

Water butts, like sheds, are never big enough. An inch of rain falling on our 16'x20' garage will almost fill the IBC. If the idle gardener (that's me) had kept the grass trimmed, you would see how excess water drops onto concrete slab and flows via 4" pipe to soakaway.

I have a plastic sheet ‘car port’ in front of the garage, with about a 1” in 8’ pitch. The water runs off the end, into the gutter, except it also dribbles back along the underneath, and misses the gutter, falling all over the area it is supposed to be keeping dry....

It has obviously done it since it was installed, decades ago. There was also a leak that has rotted the woodwork, which I have found to be wrongly folded lead, underneath the tiled house roof. That too must have been like it since it was built.
Hard to believe the previous owner let it slide.

Any ideas how to stop the water running back underneath? I’ve put a piece of plywood there, for now, but the whole thing needs tearing down and doing properly.

I am going to use dpc or roof felt under the roof and drape it over into the gutter

Don't forget to put a drain tap down at the bottom so you can drain out for cleaning or before a severe prolonged frost freezes it solid and splits it . In winter I leave the tap open but then I have put a 100 mm land drain below it using a proper gridded drain sump that can be wet vac sucked clean with a rubber bung in the top of the " S" bend . My drain tap has a fitting for a hose lock connected hose pipe so If I want soft water else where I can run it out via the hoses.

It came in handy when I wanted to bleach a very mossy area to kill the stuff . the week before the task I washed & cleaned out the barrel let the rain fill it with clean fresh water , then simply dumped five litres of Lidl's finest thick lemon bleach in the barrel stirred it with a long clean stick then set it up on my pressure washer . It certainly beats having the pressure washer dosing tank giving out the bleach . I've also bubble bathed the car & caravan using the same principle but with 1/4 of a cup fairy liquid per water barrel .

great idea i have 3 water butts here need more really i have 1 for the garage 2 for the work shop need 1 or 2 for the house, I need proper is it IBC?? really
