Biscuits and cream cakes are reserved for the grand opening of the shed
been slacking on the updates on this! I last left you with detail that my unpaid help had come and assisted with errecting the wall panels. The next day (last Thursday) I was on my own and had the roof to do. Wee trip to the local timber merchants for 6 sheets of 11mm OSB and 6 lengths of t&g to finish off the cladding. I used 4x2 for the roof beams and then screwed the OSB down. It was fun trying to get the osb sheets up on my own as it was fairly windy that day. Finished off the day by sheeting the roof with roofing membrane. Once i replenish my funds I'll be sheeting the roof with plastisol coated steel sheeting.
I hope to get the doors made this week inbetween the day job.
All exterior surfaces have now had at least 3 coats of coal tar creosote. Great stuff to use but it gets everywhere!

Set off at 0600hrs this morning on a trip to a small village called Bolton, between Penrith and Appleby on the A66 to collect the sheeting for my workshop roof. Now, you may be wondering why someone who lives in Ayrshire would travel all the way down there just to get 5 10ft sheets and 4 lengths of flashing. Simple. They were £110 less than a local supplier. So even taking into account my fuel cost up and down at £45 I've still saved myself £65
A quick trip to ScrewFix once I'd got back to get the roofing screws and the next 2 hours were spent fixing the sheeting and flashings down. Also finished the large double doors and got them hung. Just the small side double door to make now and that's the outside complete

if I've got a spare 5 - 10 minutes I just splash a bit of creosote into the pot and brush it on till the pot is empty. Hopefully get the side door made up tomorrow, then the other half can get the old hut empty and I can dismantle it.

The one on the right is the original shed that was sited where the new one is. It is a 10x8 with a crappy wooden floor. It is still sitting on the round tube I used as rollers to shift it round out the way. Hopefully be dismantling it next weekend as it's heading to my mates farm, as hopefully part payment of an Australian Kelpie sheepdog pup.

I find creosoting an easy enough job (messy but easier to apply than the modern wood "preservative" paint available) so it'll get plenty on it over the rest of the year!You need some green caps on those tec screws, was the real creosote readily available ? I love the smell of that stuff
It's still available from Agricultural supply places. I think whatever solvent they use to disolve the coal tar into has been changed as the smell is slightly different. It's still the real stuff though. Made by a company call Creoseal - they also make the creocoat creosote substitute.
Almost a year since I've been doing any work on my "new workshop". Since May last year all I've done with it is add to the pile of stuff inside it.
Today I finally got myself motivated and got the 11mm osb boards bought to line the inside walls. I got all the walls lined this afternoon/early evening. I'm still not gona get a job as a joiner
but I have smooth, even walls and its starting to look more like a workshop.
I also got the Consumer unit, light switch, 32a socket and 2 double 13a sockets screwed onto the walls. Got 4 more 13a double sockets and 2 5ft led battens to fit tomorrow and wire them all up. Leaving the connection to the mains till last. Got the swa all ready to go and if I get time it'll be connected up and hopefully tomorrow evening I'll have a workshop with electricity!
