He tightened up like a cold sack when i just asked him, politely,to elaborate on what he was doing.
Especially when it paid 1/3 what he can do now

You obviously have difficultiesWas it the gates at the entrance to sellafield you were making?
You obviously have difficulties
Is there something wrong with gates? I don't but I answered your questions previously
Asked and it didn't include gates.
Thing is I bet the firm that makes the gates and security railings around these new plants makes a shed load more than the guys inside getting spatter burns in some tight space and that's just a fact
I have and still use an Optrel Satellite mask from about 10 or 12 years ago. I have a newer Optrel 680 that I use and I have their best one which is the Optrel E684 with filtered air which I also use. All of the helmets have external controls and not once have I hit the controls on the side and damaged them. They all have their battle scars so they have not been pampered. I work outside in all sorts of conditions, mud included. The clarity of the E684 is superb.

Do you really want to know? I have mentioned it previouslyHe tightened up like a cold sack when i just asked him, politely,to elaborate on what he was doing.

Does any of this have much to do with your suggestion that its a good idea for welders doing heavy production work to use cheap helmets, rather than name brands such as Speedglas?
I already stated it. We are talking about the late eighties here excuse me if I don't seem to 100% recall every jobKent ive listened to a lot of your posts,be it cheap helmets or cheap/good welders, anything welding related
there is nothing wrong with making gates, most welders have made them at some stage or another.what pays, pays.
but if you claim to be welding to a nuclear standard, now or some stage in the past,i am going to find it difficult to believe.
ill ask politely to elaborate what part of the pinnacle area of the industry you excelled at.
With no real reply.
How do you find the small viewing area in comparison to helmets with more area?
You know your 200% correct I also have two the youngest 10 oldest 16.I did the same thing. I gave up a job paying up to 4X more than I earn now. I worked in the cement and power industry manufacturing and installing parts into classifiers, mills, silos. I worked in Saudi Arabia, Nigeria, Jordan, Egypt and many more earning a lot of money. my reasons I didn't do it forever are obvious as you know I've 2 young kids and I was not seeing them.
Point being we don't know each other and I can think of many reasons people step out of industry's. Money doesn't drive everyone.
I find the viewing area more than ample, if I need to look elsewhere........ I turn my head
Why? I am not looking for work in it and I don't know why it even crossed my mind to re- qualifyIf someone throws out the old 'nuclear welding standard' line, they would want to be able to back it up
especially if it paid so little in comparison.
I was asking as probably getting another helmet, and other than external controls and smallish viewing area the Optrel looks very good. The clarity of view when not welding though seems a great feature, and is likely to make positioning etc easier. Whats the cost of things like inner and outer cover plates? They are pretty expensive for Speedglas and Miller!
Well, you seem to have missed the words "at least one" and indeed the whole point of my post, which is that I get around to many different types of place all over the country, and the majority of lids I see being used in industry are speed glass. Obviously other makes are available and do get used, but that's just my observation. At least one speedglass. That many eh? I am not knocking high cost lids or saying nobody should bother and certainly haven't got helmet envy but one swallow doesn't make a summer
I visit four different shops regularly in very different markets there is I think one speedglass worn and it's a filter one
Around here the three most popular cars are range rover land rover and Japanese pickup. I can't think of many small hatchbacks but I
know that's not representing the rest of the nation
I am of course the owner of a fabrication company
This is what I am trying to establish. I had a speedglass air system and sold it as I did not like it.Choosing a Speedglas over a cheapy for day in day out production work, seems to me the same as choosing a Fronious or Lorch welding set for production, rather than a £200 Ebay special. Cheapy does the same job, but not as well or for as long as the professional gear.
