I can get severance at about 22mm, but not 85cm's.Try cutting that with plasma
Well actually it’s not the propane or the acetylene that cuts, it’s the oxygen!
The fuel gas just raises the temperature sufficiently that the metal that you our are cutting starts to burn in the oxygen, and the heat from that reaction keeps the metal hot enough to burn.
The trouble with acetylene is that it will detonate if a free gas and above a certain pressure which is why the bottles store it dissolved in another medium. Keep your a acetylene pressure down to not more than 4 or 5 PSI

when i was 15 i worked in a dive shop and did the nitrox mixing, i would never ask a 15 year old to mix nitrox the risks and liability mental. young and dumb you dont think about the risksits really only rusting away the steel , just very quickly .
Oxygen deserves a lot more respect than a lot of folk tend to give it , watch a gas blender in the dive industry handle pure oxy , then watch a farmer with an oxy bottle .
Never managed it myself, trying to keep the heat in the plate and just enough oxygen to keep the cut going without cooling the plate.True, once cutting starts you can if you work the torch cut with just the oxy.

right when I originally bought the kit, i was going to use propane. But since the man insisted on acetylene and it was 38 pound a refill, also people saying it was better that's what i got. I then went and bough the correct hoses, regulator and was going to buy new tips till i read somewhere you could use propane tips so i didn't. I bought what I thought was a complete set for op, so i thought the check valves were either built in or weren't necessary. Not sure if it has been mentioned yet but you should NOT use kit designed for propane with acetylene gas! That includes hoses, flash back arrestors, regulators & as you found out, cutting nozzles!
There are also substances in propane that will damage gear designed for acetylene.
Acetylene is stored in the bottle dissolved in acetone, if you use it with kit designed for propane it WILL quickly rot your hoses, regulators, etc!
Either buy yourself the proper gear for acetylene or switch to propane. Unless you are planning to gas weld propane will do any cutting just as well plus its safer, easier and cheaper to buy.
TBH it sounds like you need someone more experienced to look over your existing gear, check if it is correct & advise what you need to change. It's not something that should be left to a beginner as it can be very dangerous if it goes wrong!
Wonder why they cut it with the piece vertical?
