What poses the greatest risk with acetylene is that it has the highest flammable range of any common fuel gas. LEL is just 2.5% and UEL 100%, that means it will explode at concentrations where other gases are either too rich or too lean to ignite.

Basically, don't keep it inside or next time you open the shed and turn the lights on it might turn your own lights out - permanently. This guy below had a bottle leak in his car, when he hit the window switch it blew all the bodywork off.

he must have had no sense of smell and also left the shut off valves open .one of my regs was leaking just a bit and I could smell it instantly just nipped the bullnose up a bit and was ok. I allways purge my lines and slacken the regs pressure knobs off when not in use

I got my sense of smell ruined in an accident so I’m even more cautious with leaks and things because I just won’t smell it in time. That said with a lot of gases if you can smell it then it’s within the explosive limit or it’s deadly.

ive only had 2 issues with gas . one the propane hose came off and flared up .was lucky and didn't get burnt the other was a 10lb full bottle of propane ended up in my pit because the torch was on the floor without the bottle been turned off and the torch was kicked and turned it on without me knowing 2 days later smelt the gas in the pit had to blow it out with a fan started it up outside 1st so no spark lessons learnt from it

best tip I ever got was , turn the oxy bottle on first , then when you turn the acet bottle on only a quarter turn , leave the bottle key in the acet bottle , , , that way you can turn it off in a hurry if you need too.

Having problems with small flame coming up behind the tip where that brass’s nut threads in. Not sure it cause I overheated the tip or not cheers

If everything is clean and seats well it could be that you’re not getting enough oxygen through it to cool it while it’s cutting? If you overheat it everything moves and a gap will open up which allows gas out which then ignites.

Oxygen cylinders can act like rockets if they fall over and the valve breaks. Just the shear pressure and mass of gasses suddenly escaping from the relatively narrow cylinder neck can propel it at dangerously high speeds about the place. And a full size O2 cylinder is pretty darn heavy !

Have you also felt any warmth further down the body of the torch? As @James1979 that flame could be because the nozzle/tip is not seating properly. I'd be inclined to take the nozzle off and check that it and the seat in the torch head are clean. Then refit, make sure the nut is tight (but no too much) and fire the torch up. If the problem recurs, I'd personally get shot of the torch.

Soap and water test all connections, regulators and hoses BEFORE you light up for the first time, and regularly thereafter.

Without being rude those parweld torches aren’t the best. I have used one on a borrowed set and it was crap. Went and got my Safire in the end. May just be his one but it seemed a bit light and ‘plasticy’

it may be that if it’s a cheaper torch there’s not as much tolerance in things when it starts to heat up. The major brands are a lot heavier and I haven’t had half as much trouble as with the budget ones.

Harris far superior to BOC. What you want is the Harris injector torch.

Old school here, last firm I was at had Victor torches, that was years back, though; I always preferred them to BOC. I could never fault Victor plate nozzles, they always produced a good, clean cut.

I get on alright with my Safire. Have a couple and they do the job. I used a victor once which was nice. I have big hands and it just felt nice to hold. Made by Esab now?
