This is my contribution to the thread. Not necessarily that special to many, but becoming quite rare. I think there are only something like 150 2 door saloon Vauxhall Magnums still registered when I last looked. A few of you have posted vehicles with the slant 4 engine (although this one is only the 1800).

Lots of sentimental value here though - dad bought her new in 1974. We ran her until 1990 and then she was taken off of the road and this was me moving her last year from where she had been parked up in 1990 to my workshop. I haven't started work yet - new wings needed (I have them), the sills at the rear need patching and a bit of work on the rear arches (luckily there is a company still pressing the arch pattern). The engine has only done about 70,000 miles and starts and runs. Needs a fettle, but I think it is the carb as its basically a mahooosive flat spot when you want to accelerate and I have a rebuild kit for that. My child seat is still strapped into the rear!

That's great, I always thought they had a nice shape, the design has aged well. Better cars than the equivalent Fords, and not overpriced either.

Its a lovely car. Luckily dad was a bit OCD about rustproofing etc so it hasn't rotted like many and was always garaged. I sometimes think its a shame he didn't get the Magnum Coupe or Firenza with the 2300 engine as well, but the car is four years older than me and it doesn't really matter to me that it wasn't the fastest or sportiest looking model available as it's been a part of my life forever! Dad isn't too well these days and I would love to have it back on the road for him to see but I don't think time is on my side here!

seems most of the car guys are on here, anyone got a Ford 1600 crossflow engine sitting under the bench? I know they fetch a bit of money these days!

No but I recently gave away a genuine 2000E gearbox! I know it was genuine because I took it out of the 2000E Corsair that I put into a forest in Scotland in 78/79!

So do you know Paul from Ongar, he used to be into Vauxhalls?

Yep He's the chap I bought the new wings for mine from. I think we chatted about him when I picked the pallet truck up from you. He had a Viva HC estate shell on the drive when I visited him for the wings,

The 2300 were twin carb from the factory. The 1800 came with either a downdraught Zenith or later on a single Stromberg. The 2300 engines come up occasionally... I keep being tempted to retrofit one, but I ought to resist temptation and keep this original given its history.

In the better weather i use this 1959 morris 1000 as a run about but it's little 948cc engine has been replaced by a modified 1275cc midget engine and a ford 5 speed box making it nippy and better in modern traffic.

We had one the same age, it didn’t survive my early attempts at gas welding the sills, fortunately I put the fire out before the workshop was ablaze, good job too as I did it at work

As the owner of a CF van with the earth-shattering power of the OHC 1600, I used to dream of the 2300 lump.

On my Bonnie 2up one night on the A1 Morpeth to Newcastle tried to pass a Vauxhall and couldn't(it was dark my excuse) My mate later explained to me that the car was a Ventora apparently quite nippy.

Ventora was a 3.3 litre inline 6 police used them
