Yep He's the chap I bought the new wings for mine from. I think we chatted about him when I picked the pallet truck up from you. He had a Viva HC estate shell on the drive when I visited him for the wings,



The 2300 were twin carb from the factory. The 1800 came with either a downdraught Zenith or later on a single Stromberg. The 2300 engines come up occasionally... I keep being tempted to retrofit one, but I ought to resist temptation and keep this original given its history.

Here is my great grandparents,around 1923,my grandmother is in the white top,he was wealthy,graduated to a car in the ‘30’s,went to Dagenham and bought direct from ford ,a real haggler,dressed poor by nature so no doubt got help! He persuaded them to give more discount by buying with only a drivers seat,all passengers sat on a wooden fruit box and would dodge cats eyes to save tyre wear,he worked 7 days a week,built GPO bikes upstairs,charged for motorcycles storage,his wife spoked the wheels,also offered an accumulator charging service,then on Sunday delivering Sunday times,was the first in the street to have a car,so neighbors all came for a viewing.
The sprint bike is unknown but has a family connection,no one now knows who,but my family originate from south London,we’d love to know more,one link is CARES garage/motor service?or CLARES?
The forward control was my last,a IIA ,the smaller image shows how it ended up,fed up with welding every mot(how I got into welding),I cut in half behind the bulkhead made a new chassis to 130” w/b and galvanised it ,then a dropside body,used it in my business for a few years,but wanted a roof over me and tools in bad weather,+ fed up with weak transmission,well it did have a 100 hp BMC 5.1 in .
Btw the steering lock was so bad ,I once tried a 53 point turn on an unfinished road and dropped the back axle over a kerb,so was grounded,AA man pulled me out with a t4 ! the Landy was loaded with a fire escape that I was on route to erecting.

May not be any connection, but, there was a Clare's motors near Crown Point (Norwood area) in South London when I was a teenager. The place was like a time warp. Run by two or maybe three very elderly brothers. In the past they had done car repairs and the like, but had reduced their services to supplying car spares from the extensive stock of new old stock shelved vintage car parts and also secondhand parts heaped up in their yard, they also rebuilt car magnetos. I bought a couple of 1930s rear axles in their closing down sale which occurred in the mid 1970s; literally tons of Edwardian and early vintage car parts went in the skip if someone didn't happen to buy them at that time.

That must be the same business as my family lived there from late ‘40’s- ‘65,my sister taught at crown point.
It was my uncle that worked for the brothers.

Not really old but you do not see many about now our ex post office LDV pilot diesel with 11 seats that i converted into a 6 seater with a single bed in the back for days out, very reliable and 1.9 pug non turbo went quite well, behind is a toyota celica 4WS GTR import went round corners well.

I was looking at old royal mail vehicle sites a few days ago.
I was trying to find out what the walkthrough vans they used in london in the 60's were.
They had a roller rear door and perkins engine.

A mate bought a LWB to take his f2 outfit to the races. First time out the roof almost came off. Turned out it had been used as a mobile works canteen, condensation had rotted out the roof around the dip line. Spent ages finding another van with a good roof to swap over, used it for yrs after replacement
