Best looking Freelander ever !
I drove one for some years on BT,…. Yes what a load of junk. The engine cover had inches gap around it so it filled with fumes. Touch the brakes & you didn’t know whether it would go left or right or lock on. I nearly had an accident due to the brakes, so I took it into the BT fleet garage & refused to drive it unless it was sorted. The mechanic drove it across the yard & hit the brake pedal, the front went down until the bumper touched the ground & he had the back wheels 2 feet in the air. They told me they had never seen one do this & finally agreed there was a problem with it. It was always well loaded, but I never got more than 9 to the gallon, though my right foot might have helped.Back in the early 70s, some friends rented a Commer Camper like that one and drove it down to N Spain, looking for a house. I tagged along in a Mini with a tent. The Commer was a heap of rubbish and I had several sessions on the engine to keep them going.
Always amazed to see what people like to restore. Cars that I would have avoided when new, now better than new, and loved.
Bout the same time, looked a P1800 SaintMobile, like the red one. British built and rusty as hell on closer look, I ran away and bought an Alpine IV for £250 and had a lot of fun.
A few years ago I posted a few workshop tools for sale from a deceased family friend. I recall @skotl took the old Colchester ...
...Eddy was always talking about the work he was doing on it, sad he never got it rebuilt, quite a machine. He always had a few interesting cars that he worked on and drove: a Panhard PL17 was a favourite of mine and an early mk1 Range Rover V8 he had from new til his death.
That blue Foden is from just up the road from me, Little village called Rhydlewis, in Cardiganshire.
