Plasterboarding a ceiling.

I need to replaster my landing ceiling because the plaster had come away from the lathes.


I've stripped off the old plaster.
Mucky job!



And I'm intending to plasterboard + skim

My question: extensive googling says that I need to have a joist/noggin at the perimeter of each board.
If I use gripfill (solvent based) to glue the (12.5mm) boards to the lath, can I get away with just screwing into the joists?
The alternative is to pull down the laths and fit noggins.
I *really* don't want to do that - I'm still finding bits of plaster in some places Id rather not find it- I'll t+g some 18mm ply first!

climb in the attic and knock them all off with a spade from above its quick and u stop clean

Is it DEFINITELY not gonna work with the laths on?
There's an inch of carp dust and 9inches of insulation being held up by the laths.
I REALLY REALLY REALLY don't want to remove the laths.

What about noggins fitted between joists to support edges?

They’d be a bit all over the place for boarding straigh over. Other option would be to counter batten (at 90deg to joists) with cls or similar then fix to this. Also gives you opportunity to space at 400mm to tie in with your boards widths.

Yes.
I get that bit.
But what about the joints perpendicular to the joists?
Do they *need* noggins fitted to support?
Or would a few blobs of gripfill solvent adhesive onto the lathes support the edges ?
In case it's not obvious from photos: the laths are clean of plaster - there's a bit of dust only.

With 8 x 4 sheets of plaster board the minimum support you can get away with is 600mm centres on the width with supports on the perimeter. I always like a support halfway between the ends as well.
So in plain English each 2400 x 1200 sheets should have a cross through the centre with supports on the edges as well.
I'd screw 50mm x 50mm across the joists on 600mm centres and then fill in with noggins on the ends and centres of the sheet.
