plastic use /landfill hypocrite's?

Ever wondered what you tea bags are made from? Chuck them in the compost & a year down the line you are fishing lots of little nets of polypropylene out of your lovely compost.

I am out in Florida at the moment. Plastic bags galore. Walmart seem to be on a mission to use as many as possible. Plastic cutlery, cups you name it.
Energy and water saving unheard of. Nothing stopping me leaving the lights and aircon on all day in my hotel room.
Energy dirt cheap over here and they don't care. Mercedes and many other companies looking to switch manufacturing to the USA due to cheap energy costs.
Why is little UK suffering just to feel holier than thou?

I'm not sure of what point you are trying to make?

That we shouldn't bother to use less energy where we can? That America appear to be wasteful so we should too?

Probably more that we are peeing in the ocean a bit if we cant get any of the big players to take it seriously. US, China, Russia, India etc. It just feels a bit hopeless to be honest. Of course we should do our bit but it isnt going to make a great deal of difference on a world wide scale.

Talking about energy being wasted doesn't make sense though. Why wouldn't we be saving what we have, reducing what we use - be that water, energy or plastic?

I understand "what" he is saying but not the points he raises to highlight it.

The U.K. could be removed from the face of the planet and it would make not one iota of difference to the overall warming/pollution/carbon picture. Unfortunatly the virtue signallers that run the country, who will never go short of anything in their lives, have a nice warm global image to uphold and love the egotistical 'leading the way' regime they have started.

But, yes you are right of course, the entire western culture is quite "wasteful", though as far as I was aware we were comparing 2 similar countries not a 1st world country with a 3rd world one which is probably a different argument altogether - hence my point, it doesn't make sense to be "even more" wasteful, when it takes little effort not be.

Most of their plastics are shipped there by UK councils. They expect us to recycle and then ship it off to dodgy countries!

and the plastic they ship is supposed to be clean in bales for them to recycle but it isnt and full of crap . they cant use it so just dump it on tips its us to blame for it

Why is it so many plastic barrels, jugs, and other items crack apart after a few years outside ?

Ours are made from tissue paper. Six weeks after I put em in compost, GONE.

One point I missed off my 'rant', was that the recycling is deprecating process. i.e. a downwards spiral. Food grade plastic will not be recycled into food grade plastic. So eventually it has to go off radar?

Free radical depolymerization, is the term, otherwise known as UV degradation, often seen on plastics with colour change, epoxies go gingery & start to break down, Polyurethane foam like celotex turns orange quite quickly, It gets ground up in the sea & on the beach & breaks down into tiny particles that are ingested by living things, Microplastics.
Its in everything including our food & now us.

I haven't flown transatlantic in years. I thought Virgin would be better than that. Her indoors booked and paid. Wouldn't give me the flight details as I would be too fussy over what aircraft it was!
Turned out I was right. Airbus A330 and not the 350. Seat pitch the same as going Ryanair to Portugal. But you don't mind that for a short flight.
Plane was completely rammed .I did try not one sear left anywhere.
I spent most of the flight in the galley chatting to a stewardess
