Tea. Made with loose leaves in a teapotWhat's your preference?
Wasn't it Starbucks who crowed loudly a couple of years ago, how they were changing to paper straws, to save the world.Re plastic straws,i priced some components for a paper straw making machine 2 years ago, don’t know what became of it ,though I’ve had them in my drink from independent cafes ,were at least 17 miles from the nearest McDonald’s,thank god.
As a kid I'd go with my mum to the local market on the bus...buy fruit and veg which was always sold in paper bags. The heavy paper bags you see in American shops seems the obvious answer I don’t know why the Uk doesn’t use them. I agree completely about plastic wrapped fruit and veg.

It's like we've forgotten how to be sensible.
Paper bags were phased out to save the trees we were murdering to make them. Plastic was the saviour and solution to all of our problems
Realistically plastic isn't the problem, there is no excuse for all of it not to be made recyclable. The rest of the problem is the way the great unwashed discard it and the way some countries are allowed to dump it into the sea. Its no different to a gun and a bullet, both completely harmless until they get into the hands of an idiot

In the Philippines it is/was standard practise for garbage trucks to simply back up to rivers and dump their entire contents in. It is horrifying and infuriating to see, but they just don't care.Realistically plastic isn't the problem, there is no excuse for all of it not to be made recyclable. Poor education? In the Philippines it is/was standard practise for garbage trucks to simply back up to rivers and dump their entire contents in. It is horrifying and infuriating to see, but they just don't care.
The last few years they have made major changes in the country, but probably far, far short of what's really needed.
not poor educationPoor education?
That’s why I say poor education as we progressed and some parts of the world haven’tnot poor education
dont care, too much hard work, greed is at the top with companys
the uk was just as bad bed pans was just tiped out of windows straight onto the street as many owners just didnt care didnt want to create sewers or sewer runaway systems to get rid of the pee and crap
During the hot summer of 1858, also known as the “Great Stink of London”, the hot temperatures created an intolerable stench from the River Thames, this prompted planning to create a modern sewerage system.
and its still the same now
its really not thatThat’s why I say poor education as we progressed and some parts of the world haven’t
I concur, its one area where possibly our great leaders who waste billions should perhaps invest or at least promote investment.Apologies the sarcasm in my post wasn't clearer.
Plastic is easy to sort and recycle, it just costs money and that is the problem
The dog poo is less of an issue than the bag.I see it every time i walk the dog, plastic bags full of dog crap waving like the devils xmas decorations from bushes. I go down the creek & i see hundreds of black lumps in the bed of the creek, each one a black sack full of someones garbage from a houseboat up the top of the creek, I flagged it up with the Port of London Authority, Council & Environment agency 20 years ago but nothing was done nor will be done, The sea is more full of plastic than i have ever seen it.
Every year our wildfowlers club does a marsh clean up, we pick tons of stuff off the seawall but are peeing into the wind.
Truly we are living in the plasticene era.
Perhaps semi edible packaging to match the semi edible contents. Result ,no litter.I've already got one of those and I can tell you it's too windy!
I think all manufacturers should be taxed according the damage their particular products cause to the environment. Therefore more sustainable packaging equals less tax. I bet fast food outlets would stop using the millions of expanded polystyrene that are always blowing around in favour of something better.
