Had a surprise today, the first saw I saw was still on the shelf so I bought it (£19.99). I'm happy to pass it on, collect only from near J3 M5. I'll open the box and check it over the weekend.

The biggest tool in the box

The track I needed arrived from the garden centre in Spain today, Jardinitis.com if you want cheapest Bosch/Mafell rail. It arrived undamaged fortunately. I cut the front plate this weekend, its a bit of a dogs dinner
the cheap Chinesium milling cutter stopped cutting and started abrading on the second slot, it was only 4mm sheet. I will make mk2 later, but it works for now. I need to take the girth hand side down a couple of mm in case I set the cut too deep, shouldn't do much damage to the blade being aluminium but only takes a minute to do.
Once the rail is set up against two dogs and the rear hinge knobs tightened and it is sitting on the front plate there is no lateral movement so yo can remove the dogs and use them to make sure the workpiece is square with the rail.
Next job, adding a festool style flying power socket to the Mafell track saw. The Mirka sander hose fits the domino and the Mafell plung saw and the domino hose fits the Mafell and Mirka sander so I can use one hose and cable dangling from the ceiling above the trestles that I break down full sheets on and another above the holey table and swap between domino and track saw in either location. I'll put braided cable sleeving over both hoses/cables to stop them from catching on the table edges. Pity the Mirka has a different removable cable, wouldn't it be great if they standardised on hoses and cable.....
Then I will get on with the kitchen, honest

was time for a new MFT top as the current one was worn and sagging with so many cuts in it. £20 and 30 mins work later and I have two new MFT tops ready for another years projects...
8ft sheet gives me two tops, one for my bench and then a topper for my welding table which has the same hole pattern.
Few hundred holes routed- its very quick though..
nice fresh top :-)

I used my track saw in anger for the first time yesterday cutting some laminate worktop. I have to say it worked a treat, easy to set up and the cut edges are as sharp and chip free as you could wish for.
Following on from my post above and to reinforce the wonder of the track saw I knocked up a vivarium for my daughters new snake this weekend. Took <2 hours start to finnish and probably less than 20 minutes actual cutting. Given its melamine, chipping can be a problem but my edges were crisp with zero chipping on the good side. Using Dogs and the Rail on the bench gave me dead on square cuts. All dominoed and glued together with perfect seams at the join's thanks to the track saw.

Finally pulled the trigger on a mft jig.
Got a clear day Friday so il rout one out and turn some dogs.

Scratch that. French vans electrics went on strike Tuesday. Wednesday was spent finding a van. Thursday getting it ready to work on Friday.
Saturday the wife's away and I've got the kids and Sunday I need some emergency racking knocked up to organise the van.
Was looking forward to having a table too.
Ah well maybe next weekend.

i bought myself a "parf" mft jig last year.
change of plans means its still in its packaging.
the idea was to use it to drill 3mm pilot holes in some 12mm plate then magdrill the 20mm holes to make a steel
mft jigging table.

If I want a steel mft il make a bushing to fit in the router jig to drill the initial holes.
Should work well and a lot quicker than the part method.
Best of all it's 35 quid compared to silly money.

i liked that it can be used for isometric, as well as square grids.
and 120quid is not silly money, if it can be resold for £100 after use?

Isometric just means every other row is offset by a certain amount no?
Not much use to me but sure I can sus out modding the jig if I do.
I did look at the part system but looks far too slow for my liking
Take me half an hour to an hour to rout out a top. Be an all day job with those piddly rules and pins

not much use, unless you make a lot of hex shapes (if youre making a tardis console bbq/grill/outdoor kitchen for instance.

Yeah but no but lol.
like I said careful rejigging.
If I wanted to do it I'd use the existing jig with a top bearing pattern bit and rout a 4 line jig to the correct measurements.
Be easy enough with 2 jigs. Could use them with some custom bushes to create a triangle from the first row then use those holes to locate the jigs.
