Back in the late 80's and 90's a mate of mine ran a XJ650, a very strong and much underrated bike. That's all very well, but if you have a project car sitting outside between the house and the workshop, a demanding 5 yr old as well... recipe for a disaster.View attachment 289593View attachment 289595View attachment 289596a few images of things I''vet been doing recently. The side panel is a one (two) off converted Yamaha xj maxim, the clocks are old noisy diffficult to read Yamaha vmax and it's Virago replacement, and the blue tanked bike is a project Yamaha 650 Seca boughton a pallet minus loads of bits -runs sweet, but will need a complete stripdown and rebuild once I've ridden it.
Welding interest - the side panels were made by shaping the main bits then welding the returns on, the crankcase cover on the Seca had a crack in it, I veed it out and tig welded it back before filing and rubbing it down to paint it. I could have bought a used one on eBay, but why?
anyone else wonder when person who started this thread and is the most prolific poster on the forum and has posted several times in this thread, will post some new pictures in this thread for us to have a look at
yea if you want to see me rotavating my back field and getting rid of crap apart from going to work i havent done owt i got a nice home made small steam stationary engine given as a present il take some pictures of it when i get chance
I like that, cast in bronze too! Super jobpictures just for optima . heres one of a cannon i built made from scrap metal and wood ., 1st i brought up a drawing of a cannon enlarged it to scale and printed it off then took 2 pieces of wood and glued them together with a piece of paper in between them. set it up on the lathe in 4 jaw and revolving center and turned it down to match the canon body . took it out drilled a holes in the sides and made some dowl trunnions and then split the pattern in 2 half's . had to make a core for the casting to save metal once done .the pattern was put in the casting box along with the core inside , furnace heated and a load of scrap bronze put in the crucible and when melted poured in the mold . wnen cold put it back on the late and took a few skims off and tidied it up . the carrage is made from and old oak kitchen door and cut by hand just from a sketch i drew that related to the size of the barrel . the wheels are made of 2 pieces so the grain crosses each other. cut out using a hole cutter then turned down on the lathe .the axles are solid oak about 15mm square and turned down either end to fit the wheels . the wheels were drilled and aluminium round head rivets fitted to look authentic View attachment 293685View attachment 293685View attachment 293685View attachment 293685View attachment 293685View attachment 293698

and isnt there that old saying "picture saves a thousand words" and we do like looking at other peoples work.

Between those Spanish fraudsters and the owls dropping down dead everywhere I’m not surprised you never post any pics…I don't either so you're not alone and it comes down to more than your workshop as I have 3 large barns which have been recently filled.
I read a nice article about the scams and it turned out scammers in Spain were rifling through pictures to glean information such as car number plates to get addresses from, and any other useful information such as property in your home and what type of alarm system you had so they could get the engineers codes to disarm them, and many random pictures contained lots of useful information to a thief.
They disected this information and sold it to British crooks who went and burgled your house and according to the article the Spanish police were told not to arrest these gangs as they were leasing offices in prime Spanish locations and filling the Spanish revenue coffers, ahh, money again.
Mee neitherBut I am not surprised by your snyde remarks as usual.
