so what amp will you use ?

This is the million dollar question, my brother wants me to use big car amps to run the bottom end with complications of custom power supplies but I want to use something traditional.

This weekend I was given a pro sound pa1700 amp which I think is rated at 800rms into 4 ohms. But not had a chance to have a play due to I jury.

Probably gonna with two mini dsp units so I can run fully active stereo 4 way set up. I've got five dennon and Nad hi fi amps which I will use for the tops three and start with the freebie for the bottom end, if this is no good which I suspect it will be based on the reviews then I will go for a non dsp behringer. The hi fi amps will be more than sufficient for my needs

Reason I stalled on behringer I nuke was that I considered it a bit of a waste to buy a big amp to only use half for the sub and then almost no power for everything else

those big car amps never kick out what they are rated for they may reach it very very briefly using a pure sine wave so they can claim legally that they kick out whats claimed, also you will need a great big power supply to run them, a good few amps as they tend to drop out when a good deep bass note or kick drum is played

Agreed that's why I'm cautious, I'm inclined to go for a proper amp

yeah I think you could waste some good cash on power supplies, but by that time its too late, try on car batteries before spending but don't use a charger at the same time it will buuuuzzzzzzzz

its addictive ive got a pair of single 15 subs a pair of dual 15 subs and a pair of dual 18s

What drive units you running and will they go well with some old fashioned reggae baselines?

The drivers are peavey In All the 15's not sure what they are In the 18's not had them apart they are around a year old have had the fronts off, will upload a pic tomorrow, and yes great for reggae they produce tons of low end, had a 20k rig set up in workshop bits started falling from the roof

Yeah they are a bit big but will easily churn the contents of your stomach and most other bits if you stand in front of them

There is a downside to all this though, hearing damage although I hear perfectly ok I have tinitus constantly it never goes away 30 years of loud music
