There‘s no such thing as a mistake, just more welding. That's why I prefer metal to wood - the joins are easier to hide

Just servicing my little pressure washer that I got from someone on here.
Looking at the wiring loom on project binky brings something home to me on a (magnificent) E39 BMW 540i that I had from 2005 through 2012. I bought it with 19,000 miles on the clock from a BMW dealer and signed up for the frankly-bargaintastic perpetual BMW warranty at £70 a month. Might seem a lot but every single year I had that car, something important failed and the cost to fix it was pretty much £2k each time. So £840 spend for £2k service wasn't so bad.
Plus, every time it was in the shop the warranty required that the dealer put me in a current model of equal stature, so I'd tool around in a brand new 545i demonstrator for a few days / weeks while they fixed the latest gremlin.
Eventually, though, it was going in every couple of weeks with electrical problems. BMW then announced that the only option was to replace the entire engine loom.
It was in for three weeks while I drove around in a 740i with 500 miles on the clock.
Eventually got it back and I was chatting to the service rep (who was almost my best mate by then) and I asked how much it would have cost a normal punter. He said the loom was supplied at cost which was £3k from BMW and then there was 150 hours to replace it. Doubted I'd have got change out of £10k if I had paid "privately".
The good news is that it sorted the electrical gremlins out. I sold the car a few months later for £2.5k - the warranty was not transferrable.
Anyways - looking at what Rich had to go through with the loom on a mini/toyota, I'm not surprised at the £10k estimate to replace it on a beemer.
(brilliant car that beemer - even better warranty!)
They might, Acorn to Arabella did a breakdown of their costs a little while ago, the logic was as it's funded by Patreon, it's only fair to tell the viewers where their money's going.I wonder if that will ever be revealed?
