I was on a practice day at Mallory Park years ago on my 250 single when one came past me, CB500's don't half shift,
When James Toseland is riding it!
In my apprentice ship days the big fixed bearings & caps for them were called main journal bearings or main journal shell bearings , the con rod bearings were either con rod big end bearings or little end conrod bearings .this is the enforced xmas project coming near to its conclusion after my last 3 days of pulling the old engine and moving everything over to the new one...
knock.knock.knock.knock.knock.knock.knock.knock.knock.knock.knock.knock.knock.knock... yes rodney, can i help you? (sorry very old joke, couldn't resist...)
Took 5 mins to pull the sump and cradle off the old engine today. notwithstanding the piston that rattles in the bore, it has spun 2 MAIN bearings, not rod bearings. the rod bearing on number 1 has clearly been hammered into the crank and is ovaled and wider than the rod, however the rod bearings are in 'good' condition, but the middle two mains had chunks missing (not pictured, didn't take time to turf it out of the pot) and the rest are... rather worn.
remember this is a van with 60k miles showing on the odo (after what i suspect is a massive haircut) and this engine has been apart before and badly reassembled.
because the mains had spun, it had removed all the oil feed to at least those two bearings and so i think this van was mere 10's of miles from seizing and trashing the crank.
however it IS rebuildable, and it might get rebuilt.... depending if i can get the head fixed.
Lucky you. Those days are long gone for me now, I break just tripping over these days
I still have my FZR400RRSP though.
Couldn't find anwhere suitable for this but I thought perhaps a thread by @roofman was appropriate. This guy obviously had this as his Christmas project but I couldn't believe my eyes and had to leave before he got back up there, not good for me:

I did about 3 track days at Pembrey in the 90's. Two of them on my 1982 Kawasaki GT750 shaftie tourer.I was on a practice day at Mallory Park years ago on my 250 single when one came past me, CB500's don't half shift,

Yes, Pembrey is a fun circuit - 1.5miles & quite demanding - but its twisty nature & with even the faster corners being challenging - it's a good place if you've a horsepower deficit.I wish I could have seen that!
Pembrey is a great little track but so far from me I thought I'd driven to Ireland by mistake
I got an invite to a Performance Bike two stroke frenzy there 20 odd years ago, I took my Cagiva Mito / CR250 engined beast and had the best time harassing one of the writers on the Aprillia RS300 they built. Yes 300cc!
It was even sunny
The internal expanding bearing remover reminds me of a steel expanding Rawl plug , will try to remember that for future things as I have several differetn sizes .I've been pretty busy with other stuff so this didn't get finished over christmas.
Stripped more paint, pulled off the bowl raising mech, pulled the planetary which i repainted and replaced bearings/seals.

are you not supposed to lay doors flat before fitting or they might bow ?Didn't get any biscuit jointing done , made super chicken & veg soup instead , ready for a cool Saturday afternoon cutting wood down at Fizzy's unit . Yep t'was cool .. soup very much welcomed . Following Fizzy's laser cutting bench build closely ..learning a lot .
Got my latest toy though . I was intending to hang seven new to me doors in the bungalow over Crimbo .
When as you do ..... I spotted a simple alu / steel jig on TEMU that clamps on th door so you can precisely route out the hinge recesses and the mortice / bolt holes , this led to me being given a square cutting chisel for my birthday ( 21 Dec ) and a nifty router guide ring to fit the smallest of the routers I possess.
Seems Crimbo has finally caught up with me and the doors are awaiting some action instead of being stored behind the settee in the lounge ( Where else can you store seven doors ?? )
