What about a braided rope handle? There's all sorts of options, there's sure to be something on YouTube to provide a bit of inspiration. My late wife used to make a six strand plait to make handles for horse tack boxes but she used waxed sash cord. The ends of the handles were passed through holes in the box ends and each strand was nailed in place. I daresay you could do something with a single (you can do a single rope braid, as below, or even four strand flat, with a single cord), in that your abseiling rope is substantially thicker than sash cord.
I don't recall any handles on the tack boxes coming away, the biggest threat to them was from being ate by bored nags.
Who knows with a bit of practise, you could add another skill to the many you already have? A Black Belt 9th Dan In Macramé.

why put handles on it. Once it's in place, It's in place. And handles will tempt the undesirables to try and make off with it.
Sadly I did think that![]()
Is creosote compatible with roots? Iow, will it poison the plants? The planter will be creosoted. Im debating doing the recessed letters in gold. I could either pour in I guess an oil based paint or even 3D print gold coloured inserts to stick in.
Thoughts?

If you wanted to consider a nautical theme, you could create a "becket" handle, such as was used on antique sea chests.Suggestions for rope handles please. Got a load of this abseiling rope. Was thinking route a pocket then join the rope ends with a beaten, copper pipe. Showing 22mm but probably a straight bit of 15mm would do.

Old gravestones used to have lead poured in the characters, you'll often find them on the ground around the base as the stone crumbles - a few holes drilled at odd angles helps retain them.I like that as a technique, didn't realise it could be done. Would the lead stay in the upright forms though?
Not sure it's right for this though. I might have had a go but I've not long weighed in all my lead scrap!
Try it on a wet scrap bit and see what happens..Liking the concept of lead filled. Would it not burn the timber?
Probably not the best idea to pour lead onto creosoted wood I'm thinking though.
You could use the Teletubbies for inspiration perhaps? :-)The Sun face could then be a plasma cut one powder coated blue. You'd see through the gaps in this to the yellow divider?
Probably no one will notice, but if it bothers you, you could just chisel a serif at the upper-left corner of each N.Got the N stencils up the wrong way too!
