Ripped the knackered ceiling down today. Had to take the door off and a bit off the top to get clearance:

Chucked some noggins in, hoovered all the timber and wood treated the timber as best as:

Got to skim the joints at some time and fill that gap where one board is curved / bent:

Then redo the beams black and paint the ceiling.

A plastering question. There is nothing supporting the edge of the flat board. I'm just going to pin a 1/2" quadrant beading along there and paint black to match the beams.

The gap circled though, how to fill? Some sort of plaster, bonding, browning? Intent is to just blend / feather it in.

Straight edges aren't critical up here by any means. If it looks "organic" it's no big deal.

The bottom of "the straight edge to fix to" is nearly an inch higher than the bottom of the truss I have fixed to.

It is what it is. How to fill is the question.

Mate of mine has a a saying. If you make a fu@k up, make a feature of it. In this instance, I'm not sure what the 'feature' would be. But I'm sure the Hive mind on here can come up with something

How would the problem have been sorted by a traditional plasterer ?

I suspect bung something in the gap (newspaper?) and plaster over it.

Cut a pizza wedge and fit it in with foam sealant.
Done carefully, it will stay put for years.

Tbh "plaster" is better protection against the gnawing tendencies of the tunnel bunnies.

Quick squirt of expanding foam, and just feather it in when you skim it!
