Wait a week until the pizza hardens properly. They won't touch it, hard as concrete biscuits.Tbh "plaster" is better protection against the gnawing tendencies of the tunnel bunnies.

Years ago, before the resurgence of decent Cornish Pasties, we bought some & went to eat them on the cliffs at Lands End. They were so inedible, even the seagulls wouldn’t eat them, chucked the pastry up & the gulls looked & left it. Thankfully a decent pasty is a joy to eat though.Wait a week until the pizza hardens properly. They won't touch it, hard as concrete biscuits.
Graphite spray and powder to lubricate the rubbing faces
If there is a bolt head on the inside going into the handle be very careful in trying to loosen it , as they tend to be rock solid after a few years and shear off. Little pressure and a gentle tap tap tap on the spanner etc with a toffee hammer after a 48 hr multi cold soak in a penetrating fluid .
no timbers….mines steel
Painted black with stove/high temperature paint?
. Id bewary of touching it from an insurance perspective!
Make a simple blower gun to push sucked up vermiculite up above the plate via a removeable steel plate
Check YouTube for filling a cavity wall with vermiculite chips there are several very good 3d printable designs for such a gun.
A hot air paint stripping gun with heater removed was good enough to produce the blow .
Yes or your loosing heat from the flue reducing the draw too.As in fill the whole space around the flue with vermiculite, up as high as it will go?

When I filled ours space around the clay chimney liner I dont remember the vermiculite being that dear. But I was spending money on building materials at a great rate, so perhaps just didn't notice it. We took our house back to bare stone, removed all floors and roof. So few bags of vermiculite would have disappeared into the total bill. That must cost a few quid?
