I have got guys on this type of work most of the year, the sparky for one of our customers has our lads bury the swa along side the duct so he has a clear duct/chambers for future use.

Does a 50 amp MCB mean that circuit breakers which total in excess of 50 amps can be connected to it downstream and that as long as the total load doesn’t exceed 50 amps then all is ok?

if u have a 6 amp a 16 amp and a 30 even a 40 downstream thats ok as long as the total load back at the source doesnt exceed 50 amps at once which is hardly likely allowing for diversity . i run all my gear on a 42 amp breaker 180 a oilcooled welder double motor compressor lights and sockets and lathe or milling machine obviously not all at once so your well covered with what u have

Tell me. I just hand dug a 13m long trench, 700mm down in clay, by hand. That was bad enough but getting the DNO duct (eBay for a tenner) up through the concrete garage floor was a bitch! Had to use the engine hoist to pull the duct through the concrete.
I've got a 3-core, 2.5mm2 SWA in there, a Cat-6A and a 4-core screened for luck. I can't remember but the small ones might be in their own 20mm duct within the big one...
All went a bit t!ts up at the gate pillar where there's only a 32mm duct! Got all 3 in that over about a metre.....

The 16 amp for the car lift I can deal with at a later date if it’s going to add up to too much, I know some people run them from the ring main, not ideal but I’m not ever going to need to lift 4.2 tonnes and it’s a 2.2 kw motor (don’t have it yet anyway) but it would be good if I can get it wired from the get go.
So with the 16 amp that would be 86 amps of cb’s total

Killed a Lidl SDS drill and two 1m SDS bits. Worst was when I got a bit stuck. Eventually cored through nearly a metre of concrete footings. Always a lot easier to put ducts in first!
Just got to run the cables round inside the garage now, new cu etc.

Through the wall at a slight angle then clipped direct down the wall into the trench?
No satisfaction & I don't do "easy".
Yesits 86 Amps total, but that's not relevant. What matters is the highest total load that will be applied.
E.g. you're not going to use the welder in one hand and operate the ramp with the other.
Chances are you'll only ever have lights, a couple of chargers /small power, and one of the larger bits of kit on the go... so add up the worst case combination.
If that's under the limit of your cable - then happy days and crack on

my run, runs in cable wire ducting
same run has mains water and 2 lines of cable tv and also the 2.5mm wire run so id have fun digging it up to relay a new line or wire ducting
2.5mm wire and is used on plasma cutter and welder and a small compressor
though it should be upgraded to 10mm

Yeh I have to get mine signed off though so it has to be to spec or building control will cause even more annoyance to my wellbeing !
Pretty sure I ran in 10mm 3-core into my little workshop when laying the slab a few years back.
Mine runs in trunking up the corner of the workshop to a Dis Board, & is only buried (not that deep either I think) across the 4-5 metres to the back of the house, whereas is surface clipped along the end wall to get to the Main House Dis, fed by a 40A breaker.
I can't see it ever not being big enough - the block construction workshop is only a 4m x 4m footprint, and I can only use 1 bit of kit at a time (largest being the soon-to-be 180A Mig and a 2Hp Compressor).

The compressor will specifically be for spray painting and possibly running a blast cabinet and occasionally a big impact gun, I’d make double sure it was switched off when using the ramp because yes a ramp and compressor both have large start up currents, worst case scenario, surely it would just trip the cb thoughWill start up current come into the equation? What would happen if the lights were on and the compressor cut in at the same time the ramp was being used

However, if the current spine caused a sufficient momentary voltage drop (say over 20%) then this can cause stuff like fluorescent light tubes to flicker off and restart.
There's a chance you'll trip a breaker, but neither the ramp motor or compressor motor are likely to be bothered by it I'd think.

the supply to the house is 100 amps so I think the most we could take off for the shed was 80 amps or something.....
