R-Tech Welders

Use a dynasty 350 every day tigging carbon and stainless.took what it welded like for granted really.then had to use an esab 2200i for a week.as soon as you light up the difference in arc stability or quality is impossible to miss.and that's a 4 grand machine.rattly as hell on ac as well. POS compared to the Miller.
When you try stick welding the difference is even more pronounced.
Rtech stuff I've owned is further down the scale again,but so was the price obviously.
If I didn't like welding,or had no yearn to progress,I'd probably own an rtech.but I do and I have.

Really? See I use a 2200i TA34 often and I love it, I've not had a lot to do with the dynasty though but comparing to other high end brands I find the 2200i stands it's ground well

I have a R-Tech Plasma and have been very happy with it. In the fullness of time I can see me buying one of their AC/DC TIG units. They're just up the road from me in Glos so that's their main attraction!

I used one too last year for about 10 weeks straight.watercooled version,bout 16 of them in the workshop.non stop grief with the coolers shutting off,torch hoses leaking etc.but to weld with was not nice.sounds like a shook wasp nest on ac,anything above 100 hertz would take away your sanity.welded okay on ac,but dc not great.it can barely run a 6013 rod,7018 was terrible,plain couldn't keep a 6011 lit.had to have a separate esab 2500i to use as a stick welder.very limited ac balance,frequency and pulse

Fair enough. I've hammered ours and I find it a dream to use. Arc is always tight , the AC sings like a bird and it's as stable as you like. Each to there own I suppose. I've not used it for electrodes so can't comment on that. I have often thought about it for my next machine at home I like it that much.

We could have had a bad batch, I dont know . no one liked them, the 16 coolers and torches are thrown somewhere with mk2a's in place.
if you like them go for it.i would pick a dynasty 200, or if I had enough id like to try a newer 280dx.

Fair enough. Yeah the millers are good machines from my limited use of them. If I had 5k to spend on one my top choice would be magicwave 2200 . Mine goes at the end of the month then I'm without one until after Xmas. I doubt I'll have the spare funds for a magicwave 2200 but who knows.

Yeah, a magicwave is above a dynasty in my book too, been keeping an eye out for one with a while now.the 3 phase ones can be run up to 180 amps on 240v but they go for huge money even in poor physical condition.
a well used 2200 with a cooler went for €3500 earlier this year.

Yeah that's serious brass for a well used machine. I will have one one day. The 2000 as you know only too well is an awesome unit and the 2200 is supposed to be loads better.

Just out of interest if the machines were putting out the same magic spark (current wave form ect ) how would you tell

As someone else pointed out the arc stability is tighter which makes welding close to an edge more controllable,
the HF start on the R-tech is not as crisp i'd like, often doesn't pinpoint the arc shot exactly where its directed,

as i said earlier the R-tech's are still a very good machine for the money,
i can also personally vouch for the warranty, my ac/dc 201 developed a fault in the first few weeks and i received a replacement within 24 hours of making the call,
for the record i wasn't put off by that fault and didn't sell the machine until about 2 years later.

All interesting reading, I was recommended an R-Tech on another forum so picked up a 161 AC/DC/Stick. The main thing for me was after-care and warranty. Also not wanting to buy one from an ebay seller with minimal back-up.

Only had it for a few days, starting to get the hang of it, want it for mainly aluminium light weight work and will be say 4 or 5 hours a week, once I manage to learn to use it. Hobby welder, machinist etc. Need to gain some space back in the garage very cramped trying to use it at present.

doubleboost, if you are the one with the youtube posts, then I salute you, I watched quite a few. Liked your foundry posts, I gave my foundry gear away some years ago after lack of use.

ukracer, I was practising tonight and was literally leaning over an engine on the floor in front of me, I must be a horder.

Hi Guys, nice to join the forum. I have an. R-Tech 250 Ac/dc tig for 4 years. Overall I have found it to be a very good machine for the money. It's basic and a good machine to get started. There are no complicated Dropdown panels like something out of Rococop. The Hf frequency is not as focused as other high end machines and on AC the noise is louder than some other machines. Deffo agree With Earlier post, that they are good but of course like anything you can go up the ladder for xtra cost.
There customer service is outstanding and some of the big boys could learn alot from them in this dept. They do use siemens IGBTS inside which are known to be the best and most reliable. I also own miller machines too which for me are the best in the business but that is only my opinion. Richard correctly said with the covers off you would probably see a world of difference - to the trained eye yes!! - to the average wannabe welder no it does not matter as he basically said.
Not everyone needs or wants to spend miller money and an R-tech machine price is just the ticket. They are alot of machine for the money and that's the bottom line.

I have a Tig251 ac/dc and a P50HF from R-tech and they have been ok for nearly 2 years.
When the Tig arrived the box was fine with no damage so i signed for it from the white van driver.
He drove off and I unpacked the box to find the front control panel mashed in.
A quick call to R-tech and a new one was delivered by 4pm the next day so under 24 hours.
Dylan said on the phone that the 251 is that heavy that if the box is loose in the back of the van and the driver stops very quickly then when the box stops say against the partition
in the van the welder carries on going inside the box despite substantial foam packaging.
When I told Dylan he swore.
The tig252 I ordered was a shop soiled item with a light scratch on the case but as it was the last one they sent me a completely new machine. Winner all round I say.
It welds as good as anything I've ever used and I've used many of the what was top makes.
Even the latter have problems these days from time to time.

There is no way on earth that an impact hard enough to 'mash the front panel' would leave no marks on the outer packaging.

It's easy to blame a courier, but if
then he must've taken it out of the box, given it a kicking and repacked it...

Why on earth would I do that. To what end would that gain me apart from a tig set without a scratch which I can assure you was not a problem to me or I'd have just payed the full price in the first place.
I merely quoted what Dylan from R-tech said had happened. He even said it had happened before.
If you think I'd order a 15 hundred quid welder to kick the front panel in then your a fool.
