The differences are subtle but they are there. First thing I noticed when trying out a particular and similar brand was the hf had a tendency to spike off at an angle (not all the time) the arc would then take a second to correct itself so that it was pointing where I was shooting. On very thin gage stuff this could be a second too long. While welding you could see a fluffy outline on both sides of the arc. It was very stable mind and didn't wonder but wasn't as sharp as the Expensive units I've used and owned. 9 times out of 10 it's not a big deal and Perfectly usable but these are the differences I picked up between 2 brands I tried out. I must stress I cannot say whether Rtech is the same or not as I haven't tested one out and would be unfair to comment.

I'm not a dodgy advertiser I'm just telling people my experience and showing people other options and ways to save money . Your happy with your rtec kit I'm happy with my tigmig kit .

Thats great if you are not. In that case surely you would not mind starting a thread entitled tigmig rather than hijacking a thread that says R-tech. I almost went for a tigmig plasma myself but had so much trouble speaking to anyone I decided against it..

I am all for you being able to let people know of your experiences but you will forgive me if it seemed a bit weird that your first ever post was promoting a brand of machine.

Especially as I speak to lots of people from China and they almost always have names like Cassie, Lucy Steven etc rather than their chinese names Its about marketing as China has such a bad reputation. You will also see lots of ads on ebay stating item location UK BUT if you look at the reg details its in China...lol

So it was midrange or nothing!

They will be harder to communicate with as its in a different country and you ain't paying extra for 1st rate service as you do with Rtech. It's like what I mentioned before about buying used and taking the risk on a cheaper better machine.
Tigmig is also a risk with pros and cons. It's an Rtech machine at half the price but the down side is claiming warranty could be pita given its support (how ever good that is) is a million miles away.

Rtech have a good reputation,mainly for replacing broken welders so promptly.

Lol Not many places will spend a few hours with you showing you the basics and letting you try before you buy But you are entitled to your own opinion.

The failure of cheaper electronic goods is highest when used for the first time,falls low as time goes on,rises at end of life.
somebody please tell me that rtech machines are probably going to run fine for a good period of time,if they last the first few power ups.
Now put those 3 facts together and you get the point i mentioned.

Are you being pedantic again? or personal? No need for either. You always seem to pop up when R-Tech is mentioned do you have an undisclosed vested Interest to slag them off??.

you also said you wouldnt be able to tell the difference if handed a torch from a miller dynasty or an rtech.if you genuinely think this way,i just cant respect your,frankly biased,opinion

I dont ask YOU to respect my opinion. That said I most likely have far more experience of dealing with chinese equipment than you do. The fact I most likely would not be able to tell the difference, plus the fact I have limited experience in welding, I have tried to use the very Cheap welders sold by the regular machine shops such as Machine mart and Motor factors etc and to be honest I found them almost impossible. I found a three phase machine I had the best and a couple of butters I used were fine till they blew up. That said I dont go around slagging other peoples machines off.


But please tell me why my opinion is biased...

I think you are spot on. I even take your point about it being relevant given the context. BUT I guess you see my point about 1st post being in support of a supplier from overseas being a little suspect??

ill never knock people's choices on equipment. And Rtech stuff is in my opinion the best thing to happen for the guy that wants to weld at home. It provides an affordable solution to an avenue that is not affordable which is ac welding. If Rtech wasn't here in the uk the choice would be limited to box shifters selling junk. They stick to there policy and don't mess about and I totally get it. Yeah pm me if you want to bring it over. Between us we will suss it out I'm sure.

There are however 2 reasons I would not have one.
1 I like bang for my buck and willing to risk my cash on a high end used bargain.
2 every other Tom dick and Harry has one and I'm not one for following trend.

It takes experience to get a feel for differences. Yes they are different IMO between pro and hobby gear but without a decent amount of arc time under the lid it's more difficult to see them. Laying beads across a plate won't tell much. A 1.6mm aluminium fillet will tell a lot more.

hi to all above, well ive got a r-tech this november my 2yrs will have ran out, never had any faults with it
fantastic machine mine is a 180 inverter 16amp....

Where do people think their shop soiled welders come from?
maybe there is an incontinent pet hangs about the store?

Most appliances (which a welder is to a large degree now) from any maker are subject to whats referred to as "the bathtub curve"
named as the failure graph looks like a bathtub - steep sides on either end with a flat bottom in the middle
first few months have the highest failure rates / repair needs, followed generally by a long period of next to no failures, finishing up years down the line with a rapidly increasing number of failures...

Hence whymost countries in europe give you 2 years warranty, (UK has SoGA) eliminates most of the "friday" afternoon specials

It would be interesting to see a double blind test done on Tig welders, to see if someone could tell the difference...the results might be surprising or might not be....

I bought mine as a shop soiled one, didn't ask why it was so called and had no reason to as it was still under the 2 year warranty from them.

It could have been a failed unit but it could have equally been a demo unit or suchlike. Whatever it represented a decent enough saving, and to be fair when I've looked recently they don't seem to have many shop soiled units so perhaps they have nailed the quality control? Or maybe they don't actually have "loads" of machines returned faulty, who knows

As I said don't mistake me for an rtech stooge, I'm purely speaking from my own experience and from doing plenty of research before I bought, including reading plenty of others testimonials including people who had ended up with faulty machines.(there weren't that many btw) the fact that almost invariably their complaints got sorted rapidly gave me the confidence to buy from them.

Exactly what I was told when I thought about waiting for a shop soiled Plasma 50. They said theyhave cracked down on the issues that had regarding asthetics and paint and would not be having the same amount of shop soiled units available in the future. who knows Sales ploy or whatever I dont have a clue.

I think you feel the same as me regarding the accusations of large numbers of DOA units and being accused of being biased. As I said the only reasons I have to suggest R-Tech is I feel the same as you and Richard as said in that they represent the best value for our buck. PLUS I would like R-Tech to succeed so that my warranties are able to be honored for 4 years plus.....if thats biased then fine..lol

My units out of warranty now so I don't even have that loyalty to them!! But I can only pass on my experience of dealing with them which has been totally positive.

If I had a bad experience I would be equally happy to share.

Practically everybody to a man says when they receive their shop soiled welder,there isnt a blemish on it.

I think it's about knowing what your buying and having the right expectations of the kit. I'm a keen fisherman and for those that knows bit about it I'm well into my rivers for the barbel. These are not fish these are tackle smashers if gear isn't up to the grade. I went down the wrong road a few seasons ago and cheaped out on a pair of reels which would of been good enough for most other species. Long story short the drag locked up when a massive goldy was on a run and the result was 12lb line smashed and a pi$$ed of me. Those reels were perfectly adequate for 90% of situations on a river but there limitations cost me dearly as my expectations were too high of them. Same with welders they will all perform to there limits and if using with in the limits and keeping realistic expectations of them they will be fine. If not (like I did) then you need to upgrade. And a nice pair of shimano baitrunners was my upgrade in this case.

I was looking to see if anyone had the same issue as me with the machine tripping out the supply ! And obviously r-tech is more established than tigmig and with them being the same thing I looked at r-tech issues and found this forum , I am not Chinese and in not part of tigmig! I am English and live in Cornwall! I don't think I will bother with this forum anymore after this as I feel your childish and taking all of this personal . I merely offered up info from my experience and told people a way of possibly saving a few quid , I'm in no way pushing people in to buying anything they don't want to . If anything it sounds to me like your the one pushing a product on to people , do you work for r-tech are you on a commission basis ??! . Thanks but no thanks !

I remember a thread on here a while back where someone had a faulty torch or something similar (I don't recall the exact details, but it was an ancillary fault rather than a welder fault) and rtech swapped the entire machine out.
