Rat poison

Rat poison..I'm being pointed towards brodifacoum as a decent fast poison. I'm told it's stronger than the stuff pest control companies use as they are less effective poisons due to risk of wiping out domestic pets.

There are no pets, or people, where this little blighter is.

Looking at using this. Anything better? I'll out some snap traps there too, but to date they have been ignored.

Years since I’ve used poison. I think it’ll all be much of a muchness nowadays, especially the stuff you can buy over the counter.

Usually find the best stuff in the form of lead in .22 or similar.

But usually for ease go for rat bait blocks from agri suppliers.

Stick a couple Down each night until they stop disappearing.

General Note, if anyone ever suspects there pets have ingested rat poison, go straight to the vets with the animal, they have a very good anti rat poison treatment, and it's not expensive.

60 quid to make my dog sick . he ate 2 blocks they smell like chocolate. animals love em

Tried several brands, and they love eating it with no ill effects. I think it has all been watered down now days.
I reckon we have managed to kill a couple but it takes buckets of the stuff to do it, and takes for ever. I mean they could well have just died of old age...

Girl I work with’s springer got hold of a rat that had been poisoned, it cost her £13k!!

I guess it's like a lot of products these days, paint stripper that doesn't strip paint, white spirit substitute that won't clean your brush, and rat poison that doesn't kill rats.

must have been crap whatever u were using i wiped loads out at daughters house with the blocks.the scruffy neighbour had chickens and ducks and place was over run with them the rats ate 14 blocks in a week and then they were gone

(Disclaimer; from memory, might well be wrong!)

Brodifixxxx is a second generation anticoagulant but still common to encounter resistance. You should use it wisely, to mitigate poisoning the wrong thing/s, encouraging resistance and allowing poison to generally get about in the environment. You shouldn't be able to get large amounts without undertaking some basic training first.

There will be a wealth of information online and probably on the pack.

Tip; if you're using the soap blocks, string them to a wire and tie them to something. The buggers will carry them off and cache them somewhere else. Then you don't know what they've eaten, or where it's gone. Strung to something solid, you can monitor consumption and remove bait once they've stopped taking.

Jesus, one of my orphaned then adopted hedgehogs escaped, couple of years ago, found it eating a dead rat, I'd poisoned them, straight to the vet, was about £5 all in. I've got the receipt somewhere.

You're not allowed to keep hedgehogs over here, no eyelashes were batted, vet came out, weighed it, a quarter or eighth of a tablet per day.

Bless them.

She carried on with the treatment thinking the insurers were paying then they told her they’d only cover the first £3k. By that time she was too far in so had to find the money. The vets let her pay it off over a year.

Tried a few brands over the years, this is the latest lot - they can easily eat one a day for a week, before I might get a clear shot at them.
Mind you the rats round here are all well-fed big hard ********. Non of those poncy city rats.
Come harvest time they are everywhere.

I'd encourage you to consider somthing more instant, like the fen traps, rather than poison.

Another really good reason to use traps, a gun, a jack russel, etc rather than poison.

the mk 4 fentrap never fails niether does the lead live catch traps are a bit hit and miss. i generaly only use the blocks in the sheds thats if they get that far keeps the mice out as well . the dog is well up for them but dont fancy her getting bit
