My wife has a friend who lives in a house that she rents, it’s infested with mice. She’s not allowed to kill or poison them. She live traps them and releases them in the chicken run

We have a few here.... The dogs (Labs!!) have had 2 large ones in the last week now - hunting as a pack. The biggest bitch just gives one quick bite on the back of the neck and a shake - it's all over - very clean and quick!.

I've put some of the 'blue corn' in the feeders of chicken houses I've just moved hens from - the little buggers aren't touching it at all!

leave it a week and they may take it. there not stupid and need time to get used to where stuff is . if there isnt any food left they should take it

From our experience..takes about 6 weeks until they are brave enough to have a go at the traps. Then they just don't seem to be able to keep themselves off them.
They may be dirty horrible things, but they aint daft.
Depending on the scenario of course, but priority really has to be given to finding their routes in, and blocking them. Followed by trapping, then poison.
Massive bluebottles flying round is a bad sign!

Traps need to be old and weathered to be successful. Where you place them makes a difference too. We used to snare them round our duck ponds. Before you’d got back into the vehicle you’d often here the snare going off. We set them on springy hazel sticks.

We often get woodmice coming in. Old farmhouse in the middle of a forest! I use live traps like these

They work incredibly well. There are metal bits each end to stop them chewing their way out. Caught loads. They just can't resist them.
But you need to take them 2 miles away or they home!
I release them at an old empty barn miles away from anywhere. Even leave them some nuts

Just removed one of my hammers from the tub of linseed oil and found 4 drowned mice,this hammer was only placed there Monday am,the oil had been thinned a little with white spirit as it had developed a skin.
So an effective killer that must be irresistible although a lingering death I’d rather avoid putting them through.
