Rat poison

We had a couple under the kitchen floor last year, don't know what the pest control chap used but he put about a dozen 1" cubes down the hole they'd made. The trailcam showed reduced activity the first night (probably eating the blocks), 2 or 3 appearances the second night and nothing on third so the poison seemed fast acting.

I had mice a couple years back. I had opened a hole in the facia for a carport frame. The little buggers can smell the loft air and get in.

I used a black UV lamp at night and found the pee trails of where they got in. Then sealed it once gone.

I used a pasta type bait from amazon which was great. Lobbed the little packets around the loft and one night later no more sounds they were dead. And for a week totally avoided traps I had set. Pasta bate for the win.

What is the advantage of using a Mk 4 Fentrap over say a traditional snap trap (A snap trap which is a rat-specific one..just looks to be bigger)?

Yes that's the stuff brodifacoum based some of the other types can give rats a sore stomach and they stop eating it before they are dead and can survive. This stuff is supposed to be a one hit but not so sure on that they will keep eating it for up to a week maybe more but keep topping the bait up once they are started and definitely keep out of reach of pets.

By the time she realised the insurers weren’t paying it was already too late, the bill was already several thousand.

You think the smell will be gone in a week, but it just goes on and on.

It certainly does! I use Neosorexa Gold.

About time for some more bait laying as I'm hearing things in the walls and ceilings.

It doesn't help that I've 4 overhead cables to the house that they use as literal rat runs.

I'm told (by a farmer, who uses this brand) that its pretty much one hit, but keep topping up as you say. I'm also told the way the posion works they mumify/dry out rather than sit in a stinking mess. Not sure how much truth there is in that.

The problem seems to be that rats are so suspicious of anything new they won't even go near it for a good while, unlike mice which are more inquisitive

The trigger is more central on the fen traps, so a more conclusive outcome. Plus the spring on them is about 4x as powerful.

They're basically small versions of the old fashioned man traps.

You can get tunnels that fit them off the shelf also, should you not want to resolve that yourself.

Yes getting them started can be a problem especially if other food about. I find the paste type in a teabag are what they seem to like best but they are not as easy to keep safe in a pet proof box

Edit. Mk4 fenn are also the best, fix the chain down well.

Brodifacoum wax blocks are good. My wife was Rochford councils pest control officer (ratcatcher) for ten years. Used quite a bit of it.
Main mistake people make with any poison is to put some down then not check it often enough & fail to keep topping it up.
As long as they are eating it keep putting more down. Warfarin still works but may need several meals before the victim has accumalated a lethal dose.
Brodifacoum they just need one meal & thats it.
Mice will dry out & dessicate without smelling much, A dead rat will stink summat awful whatever has killed it. Usually in a wall cavity, under a floor or where its hard to get at!

Looks good. I've an incoming phone wire then an overhead mains electric cable (was TT).

I've then a catenary taught wire with an SWA clipped to it. That feeds the garage.

Plus a ropey old bit of T&E to the (even ropier ) stable.

The last two can go underground easy enough.
