If you think they are bad Wales is bringing in a blanket 20mph speed limit next year for all 30mph roads. It is total madness. Some of these roads used to be 50mph duel carriageways.
Imagine the chaos driving at 20mph will bring. Diesel cars won't like it at all. People will be driving around in 3rd gear all the time probably using more fuel.
Of course all in the name of safety - even though most cars now have pedestrian avoidance built in. Even my van does.

taxi drivers pull up fill there tanks with red and then drive off and do there business and refill back up loads have been caught doing it

Can I ask why the temptation is (or at least was) there. Who actually fills up with red at the pumps legally? I wasn't aware that it was possible and don't know of any hereabouts anyway.

I can't see how builders would either benefit from it, or suffer when the price of it goes up? It's just a cost which gets passed on (plus a percentage) to the customer in the same way as concrete, screws, or anything else.

...and now will obviously just raise their prices accordingly. So the people in the end will foot the bill, not the builders making "huge profits".

Given the way property prices are climbing I doubt they'll be suffering. No doubt use it as an excuse to either keep trade rates static or try and cut them though.

considering the price differential and the lack of filtering at the pump I stoped using red 10 years ago....
mind I did buy a load of new cooking oil when on an extra special offer...it was a lot cheaper than red.....
mixed it 50x50 with white......
mind u cant do it in these modern rubbish vehicles.....

not paying road fuel duty

cost of the year for normal diesel vs red diesel is really alot so the 300.00 fine is worth nothing

unless they brought in your vehicle will be crushed if your caught doing so as they wouldnt think about it till them

same with losing your cabbi license if caught using red

Rail transport in particular annoys me. The idea should be to make rail and public transport cheaper than road based alternatives.

I had no idea until this afternoon that locomotives used red diesel, but now that its banned, I wouldn't be suprised if it contributes to more rail services being cancelled, prices rising ever higher, more companies going bust.

....forcing people back onto the roads and using less efficient transport instead, and generating more pollutants Nice one, Boris.

We have (or had) a blanket 20 in all 30 zones in this region. The then made some outer areas 30 again. Does your head in trying to remember what zone your in and whether you have crossed the region border. Car coughs and splutters chokes itself in carbon.

You'd struggle to get much above 20 mph driving around most of Birmingham long before they started sticking 20mph limits here and there. I find the most annoying thing with the 20 limit is that it isn't city wide, either it's safer on all urban roads so they should all be 20 mph. Or it isn't and 30 or 40 should be kept.

Nope.
Any road that is currently a 30mph limit will become a 20mph limit in Wales.
I have no problem outside a school or similar but not in an area where there aren't even any houses
This section used to be a 50 limit. Now it is a 30. Soon it will be a 20. Everyone still does 40 to 50 along here - expect when the camera vans are out.

In fact trains and buses don't need to use red diesel - they can just claim back the duty on white diesel. As can fishermen.

Red diesel still has fuel duty charged on it, and VAT as well - just not the same level of fuel duty as white diesel.

Its no different to heating oil or anything else.

It's not that red diesel was for farming only, it was for offroad use - if it doesn't go on the road it shouldn't require an extra tax regardless of what it is used for.
That's like saying the tax on alcohol should be extended to all soft drinks because it gives Coca-Cola an unfair advantage. It’s a non sequitur.

This move is just another backdoor tax they have wanted to bring in for years, but now done under the auspices of being green.
