Bit more progress tonight. Should be nice and strong, using 2mm plate as it was handy. Unfortunately no one has the right hand side cowl so I will need to patch it up as well.

That’s all the welding done. It was a bit of a challenge getting the old repair decent enough, the inner wing will need some filler to look okay.

Made a start on the right side inner wing. The old repairs are mostly good so just fixing the rusty bits. Ran out of mig gas so off to get some in the morning.

I went and got some more mig gas and back on with the repairs. The inner wing repair took a bit of effort to get it to blend nicely with the old wing. The repair panel is a bit roughly made so takes a bit of fettling to fit nicely. Bottom sections still to be repaired.

I only just took it off so I could do the inner wing repair. As long as the hinge bolt holes are okay she should be fine. I used the bolt holes in the top of the wing as locators for the repair section and got the height and distance out from a datum so she should be all okay. There's a reasonable amount of adjustment to get it right so fingers crossed. I'll finish the lower repairs and then mock everything back up again to check. The holes in the inner wing repairs are off though on both sides, rubbish QC from the manufacturers but they are quite a roughly made panel. I'll need to fix the hole locations as well by either slotting the holes or cutting out and drilling new holes.

Considering what you've done so far that'll be the least of your problems!

Thanks. Yep, I have a decent profile gauge and always have cardboard on hand for templates.

The wee lower cowl repair done. I was going to use the front section of the outer sill repair panel but they're only 0.6 to 0.7mm thick so instead I used a bit of the left over inner wing repair panel which is something like 1.2mm thick. Only a few wee repairs left.

Watching all this has reminded me of replacing a sill on a, I'm guessing, late 80's? 240 something estate. What a nightmare of a job. It wasn't due to corrosion, the car had been thrown off the road and into a ditch, so badly bent. The car should have gone to a blacksmith not a car repairer!

Couple of hours tonight and finished the welding on this side. Fitting up all the front next.

Got her back together, still needs some tweaking. The NOS wing needed some tweaking and isn't great along the door edge. All in all not a million miles off.
