Looks like a good project, Love to see it finished, i know i would get carried away if i was building it, 4 wheel drive, 4 wheel steer, Good twist off, low box, hydrauliv steer. As you can see my projects never get finished, they just get better haha. Good luck with it anyway

l have been messing around trying to squeeze 2 transfer boxes in to get some low gearing but l have had to admit defeat l can only get one in and keep to the 72" wheel base l am after, in my vitara if l select low range at 1000 rpm l am doing 3 mph acording to the sat nav anyway, been having a look at the commercial mowers that the council use they seem to travel at a lot more than 3 miles an hour so perhaps my desire for lower gearing was misguided anyway,
l am finding it difficult to know where to set the engine and box hieght wise compared to the axles and chassis so l dropped the body shell l am intending to use on the chassis just to get an idea, would seem l can raise the engine away from the axle by 2 or 3" with ease as it only just pokes up into the engine bay the way l have it set at the moment
pug engine mated up to a suzuki vitara gearbox followed by a lada transfer, nice but alas too long

and a couple of pics with the body shell on, need to get it to sit a bit lower dont want to much of the monster truck look, wheel arches are a bit tight but being glassfiber it will be easy to modify , but l dont want to cut it about too much and loose the smart car look 
well different granted, l am going to spray the body jcb yellow to match the wheels, it has electric windows, electric mirrors and a cd player, what a way to go mowing
even the wife walked in to the workshop earlier and volenteered to do the lawn for the first time in 30 years
think l might see about regestering it as a mower and getting road legal, l cant imagine something in the agri class can be anywhere as difficult to do as would be a car and the iva

it seems a perfectly logical thing to do with a funny little car, what else would you do with it ??

they are chineese copys usually battery powered, people seem to buy them pinch the drive train for a kit car or project then the shell or rolling shell shows up on ebay cheap

but l already have another of chap who swapped all the electric dive into an axim car, this one is complete with 2"x1" chassis
and running gear, l have plans for this one that involve an mgf vvc engine and box in the back 
anyway the body shell has gone back up the barn for a while, l just needed to check the poistion for the engine which is now sorted,am planing on geting the mower finished and working as a chassis and then just have the shell drop on afterwards so as l can mow with the cd and the aircon on

yes R380 although it could be an lt77 ? as l can never tell them apart, it came out of an ldv van along with the pug diesel engine, and no l cant us the landrover transfer box as it "drops" the wrong way ie towards the drivers side, l need some thing that drops towards the passenger side since l have reversed the engine and box, hence the lada transfer box as they have the diffs on the passenger side of the car instead of the drivers side like a landrover
think the thread title needs changing to "Ride in lawn mower"

Fantastic project a step up from my modest 2wd cross cart with Kawasaki ninja, in which i thought was tough......

nice, but l have never been a fan of bike engines despite the amazing power they can deliver for thier size/wieght, the lack of reverse has always been a drawback for me, reverse boxes always seem expensive and delicate to me,
in fact the whole bike thing past me by as l have never ridden a bike let alone owned one, they always looked like a recipe for making your legs face backwards to me
, quads and buggies no problem l can play with them all day,how oddAndy

well the engine looked high in the chassis to me thats why l brought the body home to check the engine position, l have been and looked at a couple of rolling chassis as well and my engine is no higher than anyone elses, in fact its a touch lower than a suzuki sj's, admitidly l have a shorter wheelbase but l am also a lot wider, and it will have a heavy cutting deck slung under the centre very low down, maybe made out of stainless steel if l can scrounge some,
roll bar sounds a good idea although l doubt it will ever be needed as its a lawn mower for use on flat lawns the potential for rolling on really comes from cornering at 80mph
