I've been using them for m0re than twenty years. Trust me they don’t.

Oh no and a blob of molten metal surely helps to give you some extra speed...like lightspeed or summat....i've been wearing the lower version of those foundry boots for about 10 years now...never could go back to the laced ones tho

On the arcair I used to keep a tin bucket full of water at the side of where I was working. If I got a flyer down my boot the lot went in the bucket foot and all then worry about drying out after. I did that after I got hot slag down my boot and it took 3 months to heal properly. Wearing nylon socks doesn't help either.

Just to follow this up... I finally talked myself into paying £100 for a pair of Jalatte's the same as what I've got. However, when I went onto ebay last night, I found a German seller had 1 pair in the size I want advertised for 29 euros! I assume they must be either clearing stock, as they only had about 3 pairs, all in strange sizes, or possibly a pricing mistake. Even including postage to the uk, they came to just over £38. Now just to see if they arrive!

I was going to say they are banned in many places especially for welders as molten metal can fall into them and its not easy to get it out

Seen that happen.
Way back, when I was in 'welding school', we were butt jointing 3.2mm mild steel with gas, it was early days and not all the class were totally committed to the task in hand. We were all supposed to wear Proban or similar overalls and safety boots with the trousers outside the boot leg, however clothing was never checked unless obvious and sometimes lads would wear black trainers or Doc Martens. On this occasion, a lad, bored with the task in hand, had placed a piece of 3.2mm sheet steel across two bricks and was experimenting to see just how large a puddle of semi molten steel, he could build up. Inevitably, the mass collapsed, the molten puddle hit the edge of the steel bench and dropped into the top of his ankle boot.
A couple of guys lifted him up, attempting to get the laced up boot off, at the same time as getting his foot into the sink, running cold water over his foot. A lecturer took him to A & E and I think he might have decided at that point a career in welding was not for him.

never found lace up boots any good in a metal work environment, unless fitted with covers like the old foundry boots to stop the laces being burned,
dealer boots when im in the home workshop and riggers on the railway. and no problem with overalls going over the top of riggers.

Agreed, failing foundry boots (difficult to get now) I used leather boot laces, they too get damaged by hot slag lodging in the tongue area but they do last longer than conventional laces.

I wear these. Mainly as I have fat calfs and the bit at the top enables be to get them on. pull the drawstrings tight and there is no big gap ,unlike a standard rigger. Warm and comfy too

Why not push the boat out and go for Redwing.This boot is the the best you can get!

im on the never ending quest to find a boot that ill last but so far it would seem that dear and cheaper boots last me about the same time so its hard to know.
like a few others here i only wear pull on boots, no faffing about with zips or laces for me im afraid, i just couldnt be bothered with them.
i wear safety dealer boots all the time, they suit what i do.
i looked into the red wing boots a while ago, fine boot but there are a lot of catches iirc.
some of their line is far east stuff now and the ones that are hand made look like hob nail boots, fine on the outside but looked damn uncomfortable on the inside.
iirc a pair of them home id be about 4-500 odd quid for the right ones.




i dont like riggers per say, ive had them in the past that suited the work i was doing but i never wore a pair out.
but here is the thing,
i seen these the other night, they are a cheap boot on the grand scale of things and if i was wearing them the jeans would go over them but they are supposed to be water proof so if the need arose things could be tucked in.
altho what paul said earlier is a point too, i wonder would they fall down in no time?.
they are fur lined and look to be a "grand" boot.

they look a tough boot and a good one too but its very heavy/bulky looking sip, im trying to stay as close to a dealer boot as possible, i never heard of them tho.
currently id wear these

they are warm and comfortable which is about all id ask from a boot tbh altho the leather on the steel caps gets worn through just.
i know you can get boots with a protective shield on the toe but they look bad imo.

I have two pairs of redwings....a lace up pair, cant wear them out had them 15 years, but dont use them much now. Not every day wear. And a pair of redwing riggers..... Bloody heavy. Took about 3 months of pain to break them in, dam good boot if some one else is paying. Still prefer basic jallattes.

again, they are from an era back when things were made better, or at least thats what i took from reviews the time i was wondering were they worth the coin.
i cant speak from personal experience tho.

this was the boot i was looking at in their selection, it looks and id say is a good boot, near 300 dollars tho.

some of my boots would wear out by leaking but the rest wear out because i wear a hole in the toe, i dont know if rubbing something onto the leather id make it last longer because there is normally enough oil on it anyways but its what kills them, id suspect the same would happen to the boots above before id get the long term use out of them.
i know there is styles with protectors on the toe but i want a boot that blends in to all applications so to speak.

I always found Jallattes very good comfortable boots for wearing for twelve plus hours per day on shutdowns etc, And the lasted over a couple of years per pair, The mistake was getting a couple of new pairs to keep in "stock" when i retired, by the time i needed them they had lost all the nature from the soles and they fell apart in no time,
