It don't need to be that straight. You have got ball joints on both outer ends. All you need to do is adjust it once to set it up then adjust it again each time you bash the arms and bend something.

If I didn't have the correct size taps I would probably be buying some r/h & l/h nuts and welding them onto the end of a bit of tube!

What is half a thou out? Have you got this figure from putting something perfectly round and straight in the chuck and taken a reading with the DTI off the end of it? If so then I’d say that 3 jaw chuck is incredibly accurate indeed. That is just over 0.01. Mine can be clocked bang on via the tapered screws but for a standard 3 jaw chuck 0.01 run out if checked properly is bloody impressive.

Yes by putting something in the chuck and putting my stick on it I thought it was good but someone on fb said it wasn’t good enough.

If I was speccing these to have them made for kits, resale, etc I would not be asking for quotes to machine them within a thou as that's going to be silly expensive.

As said above, it's not that important where the hole is, providing you have enough meat all around it. For a kit I would just over-size everything a bit to gain strength and allow myself a lower tolerance on the machining

It's a nut. The hole through the middle is the important bit unless you've discovered a way of drilling curved holes.

a few thou thicker one side to the other is going to make zero difference.
Even if you drilled from both sides at slightly different angles it's not gonna impact there performance.
Anything externally is just window dressing.

Pratt super precision chucks are guaranteed to 0.03mm tir, sounds like you within that figure, also unless your material is garanteed to have a grater dimensional accuracy than you chuck your urinating into the wind.

Half a thou on that part? If it was 10 times as much it would be fine. You ain't finding many 3-jaws with only half a thou runout that's for sure, more like 2 or 3 thou for a reasonable chuck. Whomever told you that half a thou was something to worry about - don't listen to them again!

I don’t think that will matter on an adjustment nut for a track rod. I wouldn’t make the rod itself out of stainless for the very good point you make there. At the end of the day if it clouts the Kirb hard enough the rod is gonna bend but the nut should be ok.
@Jlg what grade stainless are you gonna use.
