yes.

This is the part i can not follow.
Where does the hole at the end of the flu finish.
Above head height?
In the soil. ( It does say not into..)
Floor level?

Where do you see the water vapour?

Is it going through the soil so it becomes undetectable or just to provide a place for seeds?

I ask because i have new neighbours...i got rid of the old ones.. so now i can have a rocket stove and the new neighbours would be fine with it.
I also have a greenhouse inches behind the workshop (literally)

the idea is that the heat from the flue heats the soil, then the flue exits outside as normal - either as a chimney, or horizontally- but into free air.

you get a plume of water vapor which makes it look like a drier vent, rather than a chimney.

the one I built had a slight slope from the rocket stove part through the soil (raised beds) and out the wall, then a curve into a vertical to above the eaves of the greenhouse.

it was a rough built, gas cylinder + fire brick rocket with 4" flue and perlite + clay insulation. lasted 2 winters before friend I built it for gave up his allotment due to ill health.
he used to go every evening and light a fire for 20-30 minutes, which kept the soil warm all night.

I don't have pictures, I'm afraid, but "rocket mass greenhouse heater" on YouTube (or the "permies" forum) will give lots of info.

I Touched into this with my down draft build on the videos I have posted above

THe answer is yes but need to go down then up like a rocket stove then down finally to a flue pipe

WIth pipes running through it would allow to heat water quickly

do not use steel for the inside part of a rocket stove if your building a hester type of rocket stove

only use steel if your making the simple pan kettle type of stove

as it will burn out quickly

Thanks, I'm going for the simple version of a stove, It's 10mm steel too so hopefully it'll stand up to some abuse for quite a while.

2-3 years of daily burns, if my experience is anything to go by.
and the burnt steel will clog up your flue.

6 months to a year with a heater type of stove with normal steel

ITs either stainless steel or firebrick or fire cement and perlite if you want it to last on a rocket stove heater type of build

Ive had stainless steel glowing red with 3mm thick steel and 2mm riser mine lasts a while so far but not daily firing it yet

YOu build these things you want it to last a while before repair or rebuild

Yerbut, 10mm? I know 6mm lasts a year or so, so I doubled it for 10mm. maybe not?


stainless doesn't last much longer IME.
it has to be a ceramic of some type for me.

and a fireclay slip coating on steel doesn't work. it spalls off first burn because of the expansion.

one note make that burn chamber hot where you put wood into it
