You could look up the weight loading spec for the hinges then work the seesaw maths out but to be fair it all then depends on the fastenings into the existing post - what will they pull out at?

It don't look a big span but obviously weight at a distance multiplies

If you could describe the hinges as " proper chunky" and the fastenings as " proper solid " I am sure all will be good. If in doubt give it test ( I hesitate to say swing on it because I might get sued)lol

Hi Everyone, back from the dead again! Happy new year to all!

Last year was not great. Took on 2 huge pond covers thinking it was the start to an absolutely amazing year, getting 2 jobs on the same day that totalled have my average turnover. I was happy, then my wife and I separated and everything went to ****. Handed in my notice to my workshop and was ready to look for a normal job... well just the thought of that scared me half to death. I'm **Language**ed not sure what to do but I'm alive and I've still got a welder and a workshop for now!

I've started working on this gate again and wanted to show progress.

I went into my drawing program and had a play with possible designs. I've never designed something like this and never done it on the computer either so it was fun but challenging. Because I was able to draw the gate in different ways I could visualise it better, which helped me a lot.

I settled on a design that had the samurai and the Roger Gracie logo in equal circles top and bottom. While drawing the design on the compute I thought it might be nice to have a background picture in the logo of a grappling move. It looked nice on paper but in real life doesn't seem very practical. Looking at it on paper gives I direct view of it but in real life you'd be looking down at the design so wouldn't be very clear. So I've decided to scrap that idea for now.

After researching Japanese art and gates I went for this horizontal and vertical line pattern. It's a simple pattern that works well in this setting (I hope)

I'm just about to add the bar work and then have to finish it with deadbolts. I had imagined forging half sai's for each half. Again, I've never made a gate like this so have no idea of the practicalities

Hi Mate, thanks! Me too.

I agree looking at it now although the idea was to make it a lot thinner so it was there but not. If that makes sense. But as it is I'm happy with leaving the figures out.

Good morning everyone, I hope you're having a good Saturday. I've been working on the gate and not had a chance to look in. Thank you for your comments and feedback.

I've pretty much finished the main design and cleaned off the back face ready to be flipped and finished.

Hopefully there's not a lot left. I've got to make the the drop bars and closing mech.
