Mine is called a Scottorn when it was built mine is no 3 there were 4 (no 4 is in France). No's 1,2 and 3, had the option, of 6x4 or 6x6 when mine was finished they then decided to take off the option so it was left as a 6x6, I still have the warnig lights on the dash.

The centre axle the replacement diff also has what people have called a mini diff in the nose cone, which is to stop wind up or at least help.

I can lock all axles so I have drive, I can lock the front axle to both rear axles, by using the transfer box, but if I lift a front wheel I will still move, but if I lift a wheel on either rear back, I will remain stationary. If I lock the transfer box and operate the diff lock on the centre axle which works on vacuum, it will then lock both rear axles so if I do the same test as above I will move and it can be driven.

I have driven mine off road in trails and around the off road course at Billing Aquadrome, the other thing about mine is, the length given in the books might not be correct, it has actually been lengthened twice, there is 9-10 inches between the front seats and the rear seats, and then 39inches at the rear.

It is very capable off road, yes I have had it stuck because of the length getting around tight corners as a friend who worked on it commented it has the turning circle of a super tanker, I have had it stuck in mid air with all wheels spinning.

I was always told the Y piece as fitted on the SD1 rovers was to help with the scavenging of the cylinders as it had an odd firing order, as in the way other V8s prior to it had been done ?

First significant piece of kit moved with the 6x6 today, a Bridgeport I acquired off (I think) @Spark plug a little over a year go. Snapping two crankshafts, quitting job, moving house and dealing with all that stuff meant it's been sat in a barn at my parents since then. But some work came up and got me thinking it would be really beneficial to have it up and running again.

So a recently refurbished (hydraulically) 3.5t excavator was used to load it onto the bed and off we went (after a quick dismantling of the fuel pickup because the filter was utterly clogged).

Actually drove better than any previous attempts with probably over half a tonne of mill on the back (well within the 2t payload). Rear suspension actually felt reasonably supple, the front was still pretty stiff. That combined with the torque (or rather non-existance of it) of the LD28 means that @8ob's offer of a GMC 6.2 diesel V8 is, I suspect, going to go ahead .

Having said said all that the drive back (only 4.5 miles but up and down some steep hills) was actually quite pleasant with the weight in the back - didn't really notice it but then wasn't going particularly fast because it was all narrow country lanes. Performance up hills was woeful as per normal with this engine but braking wise didn't notice it at all - probably testament to having the biggest drums fitted all around.

(And yes I know there is a leaky free wheeling hub, there's plenty more leaks as well).

Anyway - as this is a welding forum, here's some (not) welding but rather a quickly drilled and bolted piece of scrap angle iron to serve as a winch point inside the temporary workshop (the workshop door is 2ft off the ground so conveniently was to within an inch of the Sandringham's bed so a couple of pieces of 18mm ply were used to bridge the 6" or so between the bed and the threshold.

Thought this was going to it's location but I think I'm going to move the white shelves and put it further to the left so there's a bit more space around the workbench / big table saw. They can be moved another couple of feet back once the place has a bit of tidy up so not a major issue. Just a bit piled up at the moment clearing some space for moving the mill into place.

Now I've just got to remember how it's meant to go back together

So much for social distancing. Had a knock on the utility room door and a delivery chap was there asking if I could give him a hand as he had some ***in heavy parcels for me. Wonder what they are?...

Once I told him what they were likely to be his response was - "that makes sense now".

Can I ask have you had any need to get an exhaust yet, need a complete system which goes over both rear axles ad with an extension between the rear seats, it the piece that goes over the middle axle, will a standard section fit (perhaps with the extension) because of the angles not sure.

Not sure I understand the question? There is an exhaust - it simply exits straight up behind the cab.

There's no plans to modify the exhaust for the moment, it's not loud (well certainly not compared to the noise of the engine through the bulkhead). Everyone who's heard me go past (and that's everyone in the village!) has commented it sounds incredible but I can't hear anything over the rattling of the engine. The only sound I do hear is a turbo whistle when I go to change gear.

The stack will probably be removed in the not too distant future as a pair of hydraulic rams have shown up to convert it into a tipper so the stack won't work. But that'll likely just mean undoing the clamp below the bed and leave it to exit out the side.

I'm not going to faff with running an exhaust all the way to the **** end of it - there's simply no point and it'll almost certainly just get in the way of stuff like the rams.

So today was very eventful. I taught myself how to hotwire a car / bypass immobilisers

Which ended up with me buying my first ever non Land Rover (well vaguely car related things).

Should probably clarify that's a 4l 24V quad cam V8 made by Toyota. Stock ecu supposedly 260 ponies and 280 imperial torque monsters. Should be adequate to begin with. That's if I don't change my mind and shove it in the 110 instead.

What's the point of having a car? You can't move machinery with it - much more sensible to have a Land Rover.

This is me being sensible (and a bit of a cheapskate)! The entire Lexus cost me £550 and a trailer rental, and some time to hot-wire it, being a petrol I don't have to feck around with gearing like I'd likely have to do with a big diesel lump. If I can be arsed I can probably get that £550 and some back in scrap or breaking and selling bits off it.
