That's what Presentation Numbers were designed for. There is no reason to offer a Withheld CID nowadays.

Lorry drivers often use their own phones - they aren't going to have such things. Especially agency drivers.

True enough and a difficult one. Ideally they should be issued with work SIMs or phones, if they are expected to use one for business purposes.
I don't normally answer withheld numbers, the problem with that is most govt bodies automatically withhold their numbers. So it could be a healthcare worker trying to contact me to offer an appointment (I'm 2 years on a waiting list!) so I have to answer them!

If you have Anonymous Caller Rejection in use, they will find a non withheld line to use. However, if it just isn't being answered then they wouldn't be aware. As I pointed out earlier, they could use Presentation numbers if they had half a brain between them.

My missus has had a load (As in a couple of dozen, all from very slightly different numbers) of calls in the last week or 2 on her mobile, which ring and then almost immediately stop.
On checking the area code they seem to originate from Mali (!!), obviously some sort of scam to try and get you to dial back so they can charge your phone

I had another 'Microsoft' woman call me yesterday, and to my eternal shame I told her to F off.

Wife gets loads, usually the last digit changed, the result of her internet shopping and entering her phone number when requested.
I get none because I always enter my old phone number or 0 to 9.

I got one this morning from a fast speaking Asian man that told me he could save me 35% on my electric and gas, He than asked me who my gas and electric was with and i said i was very happy with my suppliers, He insisted on knowing who they were and then i told him i was hooked up to a lamppost for electric and got my gas from a pipe in next doors drive, He was a bit shocked and said that is illegal...then i had to remind him that he was cold calling from India....I gave him the number for crime stoppers as a contact.

Not sure you should feel particularly ashamed of your response, the woman was engaged in what if successful would surely have ended in a criminal act and you substantially out of pocket.
If somebody was trying to break into my shed let alone my bank account, the least I'd be happy with is telling them to F off.
Your feelings do you credit but it won't have been the first time she's been sent away with a flea in her ear, nor the last.
I sometimes wish I knew an appropriate curse in Hindi (likely to be the caller's first language with 551,416,518 people speaking it in India, although that figure is doubtless several times out of date, even as I write).

Agree, but it goes against the grain, somehow - esp swearing at a woman, even if she did perhaps ask for it. I'm a bit old-fashioned like that.

I got one yesterday from a "Microsoft agent". I only picked up because it had a Sheffield area code but the guy didn't sound very English. Mind you not many Sheffielders do
I hung up and they tried to ring again but I didn't feel like baiting them.

I keep getting the phone calls and the last I was told I’d won a competition. I think its a scam to get my address. I don’t normally answer these but it’s my personal and business phone and when it’s going on 5x a day I answered to see what they wanted. I normally let them waste their breath then hang up after they’ve wasted some time on me.
The other day I handed the phone to my boystrous ‘lad’ apprentice and told him to tell her she could have my prize. She wouldn’t have it. In the end he got a bit pesty telling her how sexy she sounded and where was she based as he would like to take her out some time.
Today I was told I was speaking to o2 not on behalf of o2. He confirmed this 3 times. I’m after an upgrade so I listened but realised it wasn’t o2 when he was trying to sell me more data (which I questioned do I need more) and he couldn’t tell me how much I was using. He was desperate to sell me anything he could, or my family/ friends. This really got my back up so I called o2 and made a complaint. They’ve removed me from marketing calls.

I get quite a few business telemarketing calls with the local area code - they are always 'overjoyed' to speak to me, and everything is wonderful as they tell me they would love to sell me some service or other and how I would be mad to not want to save money with them. There must be some software or other that picks and shows the same area code they are ringing.
They do my head in - I used to be quite patient, now the phone goes down.

It was on TV the other night about scam callers, apparently there is an app you use that you can enter any phone number in and they will see that number, if they know who you bank with they can even enter that number making it very convincing.
Think it's called Spoofcard or something similar.
