cold roof method needs 2inch and allowed to breath if a flat roof design

if apex roof 1 inch or less

Mine is an apex roof with felt shingles.

Pushing this along now. Weather really has an affect on the build some would say wrong time of year for a build like this but keep pushing on .

if they are 3x2s then put a 2inch on top of them and that will create everything you need for insulation to go inbetween fit netting underneath
quickly fit your insulation fast then straight over with your boards saves getting coated in the itchy stuff

just cut 3x2s on there side and fit on there side to what you have as rafters to create 5inch

felt tiles dont breath and when the sun hits them they are supposed to seal up with a bit of melting on the roof fit board on after this

Breathable membrane on and clad with t&g boards . As said windows are just whatever I could get my hands on at the time. Later this year I shall another two the same size as the Georgian one.

Cuprinol grey will have 3 coats. Guttering has been done now. Then time for my friend to install the electrics. When he can be botherd to turn up.

Yeah it's been hard but most the hard work is done now. Just finish the roof covering then sort out the inside .

Is that the only door? I think a lot of people make a mistake by putting a single door in. You are restricted in what you install or make in there. I have put double doors or a hinged panel in the ones I've made.

Yeah only one door but I can install one at a later date at the other end if needed.

Hi all. I'm looking at 70mm kingspan insulation in the roof with a 30mm air gap between roof and insulation. Roof has felt shingles.

As in the picture I can't get my head round the ridge at the peak of the roof where both top pieces meet. How do I allow air flow between the two sides of roof after my 70mm kingspan is installed allowing a constant air flow from one side of the roof to the other ?

I shall be using air vents in the soffits.


Advice most welcome.

you could stick the odd hole through the ridge, Id not personally with your your vented sofits

Is that all it takes ? I get paranoid about the hole ventalltion situation.

Where the zig zag line in green pen is I was thinking just kingspan upto that area then leaving a void allowing air flow etc.

Do you link that is just to much and a waist of time ?

no

just drill a 1" hole in your 4x1 ridge board that allows air to travel up one side and down the other side therefore you have created a through draft its cold roof method of air above the insulation

Outside almost finished apart from guttering on other side. Small window will be replaced with same size as other window when funds allow.

I need move inside now and make a start with 1st fix electrics.

Been busy but boy it's cold in here. All 1st fix electrics done just waiting on my electrician friend to finish off . Then I can move on with insulation and boarding.

if your first fix electrics are done get it insulated out

theres bound to be parts where your not near electrics so insulate it

as goes for your ceiling if you know where your light wires are then board up to the apex and fit an apex flat board for your wires to hide under it and also be able to fasten your lights to it

Hi gaz1 . I am planning on having 3 batton LEDs on the 3 braces and still enough room without me bashing my dumpling on. Just ordered kingspan for insulation and the pitch will also get done.
