It's a fantastic looking thing.Apparently, they're not the sturdiest of things. The old "Jack of all trades..." scenario. They sometimes have other attachments with them too.
My thoughts also. Looks like there might have been another accessory which would have fit in the T-slots under the jaws ?Is the geared mechanism a roller ?

To remove the screws if they are seized or rusted in use a flat ended punch slightly smaller than the screw head hold it straight with the screw (put the punch on the face of the screw) and give it a couple of sound cracks a very good tip i was given to remove the screws that hold brake discs on works every time. try it and let me know how you get onSon has a Record No24 that needs the jaw screws drilling out and replacing, any top tips for removal?

Can't be sure of that, tools made long ago were built to last a lifetime, not like the far east garbage made today. This Vice looks like its stood the test of time.
