Pop some photos of the vice (especially the underneath showing the QR mechanism) on here and we'll probably be able to spot what is wrong and give advice on how to release it.

Another one done, Parkinson’s original bench vice. Can’t be too many of these knocking around! I found remnants of scarlet red paint underneath screws in the qr mechanism. I know some seem to be maroon, but I’m picking this was it’s original guise. It’s going to someone who wants to display it, not use it - but it still functions just fine.

I have managed to get vice jaws sliding but handle stuck solid,I presume q.r. is seized in open position which allows jaws to move. Will soaking whole thing in diesel for a week do the job.
Thankyou, I,ve got the q.r. and front plate off and the flat bar and the mechanism from underneath, the screw is exposed but can,t pull the screw out or turn the screw, is any thing securing it or just rusted in. Everything else came out with the magical w.d.40. I,m getting the bug for old vices, i,ve just scrounged a record no. 4, just a bit rusty. If you've pulled the half nut out as well there should be nothing keeping the main screw in.

The first time you do a qr vice it’s a little tricky, but I’ve lost count of them now, it’s actually really good fun setting the lever tension at the end! (To me, being a proper saddo!)

50% diesel 30% paraffin and 20% old engine oil works best.

Record 84 done! This one has air ministry markings, something a bit out of the ordinary. The 84 was still being sold as all steel in 1953, and the ministry was abolished in ‘64. No idea on date, it’s a lovely vice though. Jaws are reversible.
