Not my best work ill admitGhastly resto imo
Yes, it only fits one way.
This was one of the first things I checked ( multiple times by now).
You are definitely not winding me up, I've enough experience of fixing problems to know that silly little things can often happen and be overlooked.
Earlier I tried the half nut from an old Record 53 wood vice, I was able to tighten the vice normally, but that half nut is too small.
I'll provide a photo as soon as I can, the vice is current dismantled, as I was checking that the nut was the correct way around.Any chance you could post a photo of the underside of the vice?
The nut may indeed be worn then. Unusual, but it could happen.
That looks tremendous, is that the original colour?

Mine was covered in horrible silver paint when I first got it.
Is the the spring correctly located at each end.Underside of vice and nut, I've tried to angle the nut so that the profile can be seen.

The spring is for a Record, and doesn't fit well with the Parkinson nut, but does hold. Fixing it is in the pipeline - I'll try to find a replacement, or maybe make one. That nut does look quite worn in the middle.
That's the original paint.

Interesting that the tang on your adjuster nut is bent out to grip the spring hook, mine isn't.
I will try to source a replacement half nut, as I was also thinking it looks worn.
Thanks for the guidance.
Do you know the original colour for Parkinson vices?
My research so far is that the original red paint mellows over time to the rich dark red yours has, but I've not found any references to what the original colour was.
Under load.Does it disengage under load or only at the end?
