The DRGM stands for Deutsches reich gebaruchs muster traslated roughly to German Empier Utility Modle. witch a minor patent. These leters were discontinued in about 1945.

Fantastic editing director work, super editing tempo, absolutely fascinating how he works off his sponsors one after the other.

It's really amazing what you can put together in a week with a € 350,000.00 workshop behind you and a youtube-supported budget of useless stuff with no relevance to any real life topic to make a half-hour video that tasted pretty milked down by the end.

I skipped to the end to see if he thought of making an improvement, by drilling a hole and adding a bushing through the fixed jaw above the screw, then attaching a rod to the front jaw which would slide through the bushing to protect the screw, as its obvious damage would occur from material resting on the thread.

I stopped when I heard his disparaging/condescending attitude, it was 1957 for God's sake - they had what they had and got on with it.

What he doesn't appreciate is without those advances (and they were), the tech of today wouldn't be available to us or him with his YT channel.

The subsequent video is amazing. Using only the waterjet, a giant Cincinnati milling machine, and a lathe to machine he makes a tilting mechanism for his bench vice. Imagine only having those tools to make something you might find useful once or twice in a lifetime. How do we manage?

Can you tell if the green paint is original? - Woden's colour was later a dark blue, and I think the first of their woodworking vices, which was a direct copy of Parkinson's, was red (like the most common Parkinson colour).

Woden patented, and briefly sold, at least three other variants of the quick release, but each time came back to the Parky patent copy. More gaps to fill, or do you have these?

Woden did use green and red.
Mainly for government contracts. Even black for export items.
Woden blue was mainly for the domestic markets.

dannyshelf, i have a flat faced woden with cast steel slides and that was red
I haven’t started doing any careful cleaning yet with this one however the carriage and tail piece are red, and face is green with no evidence of red under the green on the face at this stage however will investigate later today

yes i still have many wodens to fill all the gaps

John "Doubleboost" Mills has a lot to answer for...........
I've been after a Swindens vice since I saw his. I've ended up with this 51/2 inch version I'm currently refurbishing.

Question - the rotation control screw on mine has been replaced at some point and I'm looking at making another.
Could anyone tell me the head size of the original screw please ?
Other pictures I've seen suggest it's smaller than the 1" AF one in mine

Here you go, 1/2" inch. Sorry about the fuzzy photo, its difficult to steady my camera on micro using one hand; and welcome to the forum.
Edit: If you have access to a lathe, as an option, you could skim the top of your existing bolt, plug weld a nut on top, then turn the hex of the lower end of the bolt round.
