yeh they are i think those are the english copies of the Boley's, mine doesnt have "made in england" so im pretty confident it might be the real thing
that 75 on TM had a high bid last time of 453 now back on again, fake bidding and un trustworthy
nice 52 1/2a, i was out bid on one a few weeks back with the patent no on it and an "a"Record 52A vice done!
Proper nice model and very hard to find as the A model - you get the screw cover with this one. Left as primer in places where it was only primer - proper red oxide, then enamel blue on the rest. I enjoyed working on this one

White night strokes, it’s a PPG product you get it at Bunnings, can’t remember the colour but it’s the navy blue one. Oil based. Good paint

Bigger than I thought. -- I thought my Parkinson's Perfect Vice 9 (early model, 2 part rear, 120lbs, spellings as shown, I posted pix of this some while back, 7in Jaws, but originally 6.5in) was the second biggest they made, with the 9a the biggest. However this catalogue from London 1909 shows a 9b at 260lbs, a variant at 290lbs and the swivel version at 320 lbs (all 8.5in jaws). Interestingly, while the models up to 9 are now (1909) single rear casting (I believe introduced about 1895), the 9a 9b are still double.
While on big vices, I knew that Woden (and, I believe Record) made floor standing vices of about half a tonne (?) I didn't realise that the Record 47 bench vice has 10in Jaws and weighs 250lbs.
The other attached page shows a range of UK vices I've never seen elsewhere, Storey's, which use the same buttress thread and half nut, but simply held by gravity ie just lift the bar (as patented 20 years later by Rededa for a small ww vice) - anyone own a Storey?
BTW, you'll also see the small Boley there, but doesn't answer the question who made the near identical English version, and when?- certainly before 1930 and maybe much before. And the two famous Emmert vises.

. I wonder what "adjustable front pillar" means ?Great to see the humble Handy get a mention in its redesigned form, I have one of those, nice things, basic but honest somehow.
I've never heard of Storey either, interesting sounding mechanism - another one to look out for !

You mean the Record 49, what is also surprising is that despite having 2" wider jaws than the 48 it only weighed 10lb more.

Can't see the shape, but the metallic paint job and 'go faster' stripes cast in make it look very like the Parry and Bott vice made in clamp on or bolt down versions and not rare here in UK. P&B were a medium sized Birmingham outfit, Best known for their builders levels.
Possibly these were all made here in Sheff, I don't know who Hand Tools Sheffield were at the time of this vice (1950/60s?), but the name still exists and makes some gardening and greenwood tools near Sheffield.
I'm planning a radical paint job on my PnB - maybe cream and maroon? I think it would suit the Dan Dare look.

Trying not to look at ebay these days, but succumbed in a bored moment and won't buy, but find interesting - two Parky-style vices - the Record is a no 23, but nothing like the later bench vice no 23 - it's effectively a first version long wheelbase cast slide Parky woodworking vise copy, the Woden is a second ditto short wheelbase (as shown above from NZ). Both Perfect style quick release.
And also a rather nice much later maroon Parkinsons 51A woodworking with central dog - not seen that before.

You want to try and find the Woden that does a 1/4 turn anticlockwise to activate the quick release

I put some effort into the search, because I also consider German manufacturers (or their imitators) to be the most likely suspects.
After the experience with the last identification, however, I did not want to shoot too fast this time with an assessment ....
Please tell me how the little button anvil is attached.
Is it threaded? If so, which precise thread?
The manufacturers can be trusted with any other trickiness including and besides metric standard thread according to DIN 68-1 - that could provide further information.
