Love a leg vice you can beat the hell out of it and it won't complain. I've one in almost daily use, one that 'management' bought me one Christmas that needs a piece making, and one in bits as garden decoration. I think if push came to shove, and as much as I love my 75 and Perter Wright, the leg vice would be the last to go.

I need to come up with a way of mounting my two, am a bit worried about having them in the workshop as I know I’ll crack the floor slab.

Consider making up a flat steel plate with a piece of conveyor belt material glued to the bottom to put under the leg to spread the impact load.

I saw this on DF in the forge, may give you some ideas. It’s a frame with a plate on then the channel on top. Then the drawers made.

I've got mine on a big chunk of wood, about 50mm thick to prevent damage to the floor. I think this is a better damper than metal as it will go before the floor does.

I believe the guy I restore vices for did, he rates them. A guy sold a 24 and swapped out the jaws for blank steel which was a really nasty thing to do, then got quite abusive, wasn't a great time, spent ages looking for new ones but they're like hen's teeth. Anyway, we got some out of the UK from someone who makes them, sounds like them.

That looks great, what did you use to polish up the head, handle and jaws?

Progressively finer grits on an angle Die grinder then DA, followed by a buff on the wheel for the main parts, and just the wheel for the handle and screw.
Then a furniture wax to try and stave off the rust, which is only partially successful in my garage.
I need to polish them up again and try linseed oil next.

I should really get stuck in to doing some of the others I have acquired, just not had time lately

Yes

It holds a chainsaw quite nicely for sharpening. Also the leg slots into the square hole on an Anvil so now you know what that square hole on many Anvils is for.

I'm not sure about this. If you stick a leg vice in a hardy hole the vice will be way too high to be used, providing of course the anvil is mounted at the correct height for you. And the leg is definitely for additional stability transferring the force to the much stronger floor than bench. The hardy hole is for all manner of bottom tools.

Mine is mounted in three bits of 4x2 with a hole bored just deep enough for the end of the leg, with some angle iron fixed to the timber and anchored to the concrete slab. I have to move it now and I have another to mount too.

Here in Norway many leg vice have a stopper on the leg to sit it on the top of the hole in the anvil.

If by stopper you mean a lug or lump at the base of the leg then yes there is often one present. I'd always believed that this acted as a stop for the leg in the wooden block.
