So that makes these little Panzer tanks even more collectable!
I have tried a lot: Backlight, macro, colouring - anyone who didn't know these brands from back then will hardly stand a chance:looks in great order, what were the markings on the bottom of cast?
Saw that on Trademe. Nice exampleRecord no75, this has come up for sale in my local area, i note its round nose and lettering being"No 75" however 75 is large and at the bottom of the vice. im thinking age would be just after ww2 as the "no 75" is in the same position as the steel vices pre war then after that, the non steel vices the "75" was more in the middle position. thoughts?
would anyone happen to have an idea of age?

Nothing wrong with unromantic designs as long as they are fit for purpose. It always feels a bit strange to come here, in view of the profusion of ornamental, impressively designed, sometimes huge, turgid, beautiful English/British vises with such a sober, matter-of-fact German piece, especially as it comes from the GDR, which makes the pieces even more unromatic in design.

I agree, that's why I searched for years to acquire a Telementor telescope made in the German Democratic Republic. An unromantic design built for teaching in schools, but of the highest optical and mechanical quality.precision German engineering is never boring its actually enthralling

Yes. Fortunately, shortly after the first acquisition I was able to acquire the second scope, a T1 model. Both my Wife and I enjoy observing on those rare clear nights here in the UK. I do prefer the helical focuser on the T1, but the turret is too heavy in my opinion to use with it.like this one:
or like this:

Like your model 75, I love the original look of the 74 Auto Vice I acquired. But just to add a bit of tasteful bling, I touched up the raised lettering with a metallic marker. It would have been easy enough to remove before drying, but I kind of like the result. As mentioned many times in past posts I love my 75, in a plutonic sense of course. I've been told mine is an early one so it's a good 75 years old. Love the look, its only original once, so they say.

That looks great, what did you use to polish up the head, handle and jaws?View attachment 333554
Love my early 75 and it’s baby brother 80 imp
Do you use it like this? I thought the leg transferred force to the floor, not supported the vice.I find pictures of Vice's quite grippingView attachment 333945
A leg vice is one I don't have.
I also don't have one.........................................................A leg vice is one I don't have.
