The fact that I had so far only found one lonely source from which the previous manufacturer's assignment came without any evidence did not let me rest - that seemed too little to me.
It doesn't change anything about the nice piece, the country was the same and we only have to correct by about 40 road kilometres in the direction west-southwest .... but there is now proof of that.
The manufacturer's name was
"VEB Spannwerkzeuge Zeulenroda", something like (V) People's (E) own (B) company (S) Clamping Tools (Z) Zeulenroda.
Now I'm pretty sure of the assignment, sorry for the mistake before .....
... and immediately I set out to find one for myself and have to realise that they have become scarce and expensive even here in our country ...

Given this siezed and very unloved dont think I have a Paramo

just thought i would share this not sure if its been posted here before but i only thought of it today
For restoring the metal slides on a wood working vice when you want to keep the original patina/paint on the main body
two lengths of PVC tube (40mm) with end caps, 3/4 fill with a rust bath/rust remover. this will make that expensive rust remover go along way
this then allows the slides to be wire wheeled with no rust at all and they come up shining like the day they were made

New no 6, I'm keeping this one. A monkey has sliced the lip? off under the jaw. Presumably the jaw came off/loose and rather than repair the threads they thought the casting would be just as good. I'm going to weld on a new lip hopefully and then fit a new jaw. But for £40 (including he old workmate it was mounted to) and ten minutes up the road I can't complain too much.
And a little paramo no 1.

Drilled and re tapped the holes to m5. Made new jaws up, straightened the handle and stripped and painted.

I'm blaming you @ranger08 for what happend later yesterday
Now that I was already finding out something about these vises, when that was done, I said to myself, "Why don't you find out what prices these pieces are being offered for today?"
The first thing I found out was that the shape of the top with the flat, angled surfaces was retained for many models, but they had to make do with a much simpler guide for the movable jaw instead of the actually interesting dovetail guide.
Just as I was about to give up, because the version I was looking for was simply not on offer - except for two pieces that absolutly had had it behind them at outrageous prices - a fresh offer came in that I had not seen before ...
This was followed by a message exchange with a sophisticated lady over 22 messages back and forth, during which requests for detailed photos were also gladly fulfilled.
You can see that in the meantime the comrades had probably looked for and found a way to save material and time (the bevels on the underside and the abandonment of individual batch markings in the casting), but kept the basic design for vises of this size, where parallelism of the jaws was important.
Until, shortly after midnight our time, the receipt of my payment by bank-to-bank real-time transfer was finally confirmed.
Your specimen remains the nicer one, @ranger08 , but mine will also look acceptable again once it gets here - cleaning, rust removal in warm citric acid in an ultrasonic bath, drying with hot air and extensive oiling - that should do it.

Can't see anything major but it is a well used vice. There's maybe a small crack/chip behind the jaw but I imagine that happened later. I'm not planning on fully stripping this one so I'll just get on with using it. It still managed to make it out of the factory anyway.

"Comrades, we can get a lot more out of our factories" .... many comrades did just that ....

... no wonder he had so much sick time with his bad back from carrying heavy ... but he didn't want to retire early for a long time "there is still so much for me to do in this company" ... then he finally retired in a nice big house with a new younger wife ...

If it was stamped reject and not scraped, there is little wrong with it.
If it was bad enough it would of gone staright back toi the furnace.
The best guess it did not pas QA.
As simple as:
To heavy.
To light.
Not with in tolerance of size.
Are the common ones.
