Yeah. Bit more than I really want to spend. Thanks for that though, much cheaper than I had found at "mytoolshed" who were wanting the best part of fifty quid.

They are incredibly expensive list price for pretty much any Record jaws, I only bought a set as they were missing from the 36 I bought.
With yours just being smooth/worn I'd not really worry about it, they have and incredible grip even when smooth, or you could try recutting the serrations with a diamond file perhaps, following the old lines.

Those jaws on the American vise/vice are quite distinct. I've seen those on The Garage Journal.
My memory is screaming "Wilton" at me, but I can't be sure.

Well it's not a vice .....
looks almost like new 
interesting how you clean them up and repaint them, yet don't repair the damage thats part of their working life.
......it didnt clean up too badly and has gone to a good home, and Im glad to see you've stuck with the smooth jaws rather than the original knurled ones.

Glad you like it. 
With regard to any marks or modifications things receive during their life, I prefer to leave those. That's half the character of a piece, IMHO. I'll sort burrs or damage which either affects operation or which are sharp/dangerous, but everything else gets left as is. It takes years for a piece to gain those little characteristics, and I think it's a shame to either hide or remove them. Modifications and/or repairs, I have no problem doing those when needed, but try to limit it to just when needed.
My first ever restoration, I went the full hog and replaced old bolts with new, had it blasted etc., and to this day, that project still bugs the life out of me as is. One day I will be going back over that and putting the old bolts and screws back in at least.
Would have been criminal of I to put the original inserts back on.
I much prefer those smooth inserts you made for it. The original ones have been cleaned up, oiled and put away safe just incase they're ever needed.

Pretty much my thinking too. Only time something should be put in factory condition is when it comes out of the factory.
These are those original inserts now, after a quick session in the vat.
They definitely don't do half arsed with their serrations; They're vicious.

How big are those jaws? I've got a brand new pair of jaws and bolts for a Record No.1 in my toolbox, they look about the same.

Working on this one at the moment. It's done barring the inserts. There's the tip of one bolt stuck in one of the inserts, and I need to get hold of some new bolts for the inserts. Before and current photo's.

I've been holding my tongue as I don't want to offend the king of vices, but...
I think red vices look weird, vices should be blue
(I did also quite like the chrome vice). Other than the colour choice, I think it looks great.

Light blue is even lower on my personal scale of likeability. Three colours I'd rather chop my nads off before use are light blue, yellow and Navy/machinery grey. I've seen those three colours sloppily lathered on so much equipment that their mere sight, nowadays, makes me think 'no chance'. Colour is just a personal choice thing at the end of the day. Wait until you see the latest Parkinson if you want to see a quirky finish.
