At the Bristol Model Engineering Exhibition this afternoon - £15, but I didn't buy it. Jaws are 100mm wide.

A bit ordinary I know but here is my vice and it's potential replacement. The little vice is the 150mm vice from machine mart. I think its the biggest one they do or it was at the time of purchase. It's got the swivel base which I know a lot of people don't like but I find it handy in a small workshop with restricted space. It's done every thing I've asked of it and I don't have the need to hang scaffold poles off the end of it so the swivel base hasn't slipped much. The bench that the vice is attached to it pretty lightweight anyway and will move before the vice does.
The Record 36P cost about half as much as the other one. It was a twenty quid Ebay bargain. Its too big for this bench though. I have another work bench that I've built from 3mm wall 50mm box section which is a much better match. Unfortunately that bench has got half a Locost spaceframe chassis on it so there's no room to fit the vice to it. Consequently the Record is just sat on the garage floor at the moment which is a bit of a shame.
I also have a six inch Abwood Machine vice that I picked up at a Pickering Country show for a very reasonable £40. It nearly killed me carrying it to the car! I will get a picture of that when I get chance.

two blue ones are what i got whilst clearing shed out for widow of old guy down rd as she didn't want her waster of son to have any of it.
some nice bits in shed.
other one is one dad got years ago and gets some serious use.

Could you take some more photos of the grey one? Looks American, what's the purpose of the large plate on the front?

It's when you do side by sides that you realise just what overall physical size difference there can be between two 6" vices, isn't it. The Record looks to be in tidy condition.

CheersThat plates a good idea, saves the vice becoming a snotty mess
It's a shame more people don't think of doing that, isn't it, instead of using the vice itself to strike the arc on. It'd save the joys of trying to remove weld spots from a vice.

The tenoned jaws should be fun I wonder what make that vice is? I can now see the made in USA on the side, are you anywhere near an American military base? You only see the occasional American vise over here.

The body looks very tidy in the pictures doesn't it? Its had a light spraying of a blue colour that slightly resembles the original by a previous owner. It appears to have been looked after despite the shoddy spray job. Jaws are a bit smooth and worn. Would be nice to replace them but I suspect they would a cost lot more than I paid for the vice in the first place.
