There's a rare 516 on eBay at the moment ... but the price is too strong for me .....

Yeah, I believe I slightly understated it
The made a 10" Record 49
Even in the heavy chipping range there was the 518 1/2 that had 8 1/2 jaws but weighed 265lb, the 516 was actually the smallest heavy chipping vice
Edit: in 1935 a No6 was 55s and a 516 was 215s

On a slight tangent, I blame you completely for the fact that every time I see one of that style of vice nowadays, I'm checking to see whether it's a screw or the nut at the front.

I wasn't going to start on this one just yet, but it's already disassembled and some parts are in the vat. That cam locking mechanism is impressive. The insert screws look like they're going to be fun to remove.
Checked on the front jaw when fully closed, btw, and it's level with the front of the support shelf when closed. Can't tell until the base is derusted and the paint is off as to whether that bottom section is machined or rough, below the ball, but I'm guessing rough.
