That's a cutie.
That's a cutie.
Update: Did a close inspection, and it appears to have had little use. Looks like it was greased and stored away and forgotten years ago. Most of the grease has dried hard, and there is only some surface rust. I tapped the jaws loose, and the screw moved without too much effort. Sprayed on some WD40 to soak in for awhile to help with disassembly tomorrow. Yeah, I'm happy with this one.No snow worth mentioning at the moment, but the Postman had a bit of a challenge with ice while delivering the parcel this morning.
Listed for sale as a Spencer Franklin vice, but we know that was just the sales agent for Sevo vices in the UK. To be continued.................

Very nice, but I'm still more envious of the green vice on stand behind, as seen before. I acquired one of the Hydraclamp units a few years ago. It needed a new O-Ring or seal, but I never got around to opening it up to find out.Very nice, but I'm still more envious of the green vice on stand behind, as seen before. [edit - I see rob had just the same thought]
Didn't know Spencer Franklin were the importers of these - seems they did quite a bit of international trading/licencing (see also their Hydraclamps and Wilton's Powrarm).
Can't really see it, but wonder if there was ever a base to fit this on one of the bigger Hydraclamps.
I'll Look for a photo with an original, and turn one to match on my lathe. One day someone will find one with the actual cam handles still with it ........
I have some photos somewhere, I'll try and dig them out.I'll Look for a photo with an original, and turn one to match on my lathe.
Seems like " everything old " is considered rare and collectable by sellers nowadays, but having Patent numbers on an item confirms it for the collector fraternity. Most sellers do research before they put items up for sale, so now the rarity is finding an item listed incorrectly and ending up in an unrelated category, which can mean getting a bargain if you stumble upon it.stole this eb pic --- why so pricey? (£83 + post - 24 bids)

.......................... it's a common small/middle sized Record No1 - ie not huge nor the smallest 'baby' size - maybe it's the cast-in patent no ..............................................
but is this number, weight, rarity, age?

This guy seems to like York Vices (as well as adjustable spanners!)
Thanks !
