Is that a curtain pole or a lead screw
Great work interested to follow your mega vice build.
Might make three so each daughter has one to selllooking good
so-o-o -- you're making 2 -- is the other for yourself?
do you think they might alternatively take up railway repair work if you also made them suitable vice stands?Might make three so each daughter has one to sell

From advertAre you scaling up from one of the smaller ones that have been found? or working from the advert?
Beautiful piece of turning sir. Turning large, heavy pieces between centres is a tricky thing, and cutting bespoke threads too can be challenging. Great job. Always loved it when something like this landed in my job tray, much more fun than the run of the mill studs, bushes and dowels.
There are smaller versions of that style kicking around, much smaller. From advert
I don’t think was ever made as there’s no way it would be that heavy , though the yanks are prone to exaggeration
Stunning work, is that done on cnc lathe or manual lathe with a ball cutter/form tooling type thing?

I used to wonder if the reason George foreman named all his kids George foreman was to avoid this problem on his electric grills!Put my name on it instead of the old mans , he’s now been five years so time to change over
Blue?
Red is the correct colour

The later ones were blue, didn't say auto vice on the side, and didn't have the valve holes.--snip--
Does anyone know the production years for these when they stopped? Curious how old it could be or if there is any definite way to date it when it gets here next week
I will likely restore it and use the record blue paint and pick out the letters with gold.
agree -- and then a display pedestal of rosewood - but it does take some patience waiting for each coat of the lacquerwork to dry and rubbing most of it away, worth it though - after that the gold leaf seems easyWhat about Japanese varnish and gold leaf?
