Wilton vices are very American - I have only ever seen ones "in the flesh" - in Snap On tool vans.

look at 38 sec on that vid the jaws are quite far back the bolt holes are very near the edge if you mount it so you can put a long bit of metal in it

Yeah, and as Sergei mentioned, highlighted in gold leaf. I did it with a metal marker pen which worked well.Blue?

Late night ebay trawling and whisky resulted in this for £20 
Looks in really nice condition this one will not be restored or anything. I realised I need a vice for my outdoor stainless welding table but something small and readily detachable would do the trick and didn't want to buy a modern China item.

They are useful vices, though I would advise not over tightening with a hammer or cheater bar as the spindle will fracture where the spring retaining pin is positioned. That said I've a 74 on my outdoors bench and a 75 on my main bench, Wouldn't swap either.I just bought this vice on ebay should be here next week

Does anyone know the production years for these when they stopped? Curious how old it could be or if there is any definite way to date it when it gets here next week
I will likely restore it and use the record blue paint and pick out the letters with gold.

Whisky and ebay surfing did it again. I'm definitely not buying any more vices
I note the oiler hole appears to not be drilled through on this No 5. Anyone seen this before?
They must have forgot to do that at the factory. Maybe this is like a faulty coin stamp and this vice is now worth £0.1m what's the chances?

I wonder if the big flat release bar has been put in incorrectly, if the screw was removed and the bar rotated 180 degrees and refitted it looks like it would run in a straight line then. (although removing the screw may be easier to say than do 
)

Looks like the retaining bracket halfway along the flat release lever is bent. Straighten that out and the whole mechanism will probably straighten out too, notwithstanding any wear there might be in the sliding connection.
Looks the right way round to me so I suspect the spring has been pretensioned too much to try and mitigate wear in the lead screw or half nut. Check the condition of the lead screw/half nut... With any luck it will just be the half nut is packed with hard grease.

Yep, that part of the jaw shelf is missing. Happens from hammering down on the jaws when screws are loose.

I also have a C&J Hampton model 22 like this (Record No2, I think - it's deep under a bench just now) - which also has the date cast in (1915? from memory) and I think it might have been green originally.
As I am trying to focus my collection a bit more I may sell this as record so popular. (let me know if interested).
