mmm... not convinced. If it were that heavy would it be portable? 150kbg, that's 23 stone 8 pounds in old money.Vice that size will weigh as much as a small anvil. Easily 60-70kg + the cart which would probably double that figure.

I own 3 leg vices, some are heavier than others. As for portability, the wheels are a bit of a giveaway.I actually own a leg vice that size. I weighed it.
Who told you these massive lumps were "portable"!

I questioned the weight that you gave, which would have needed Desperate Dan to move it. If it were not portable then why the wheels? What else would they be for.? I would suggest that the vice is not as heavy as you have said. If the jaws are nearer 3 inches than 6 it would be light enough to move on those wheels.Hang on mate, I am having some difficulty wading through the logic of your statement. On the one hand you are saying it could NOT be portable if it was so heavy and on the other hand you're saying it must be portable because it's on wheels.
I probably have 3-4 myself, here's my biggest one next to a regular leg post vice. Not a trick of the camera, the big one is literally MASSIVE.

So now you're saying it is portable. Make your mind up.That trolley would easily allow anyone to shift a 200kg load, let alone a massive, heavy vice. Again, it is something I do all the time, shifting heavy loads by hand on wheeled trolleys.
Your logic is flawed, you are wrong, suck it up and move on.

Ah I see where you are going wrong. You think "portable" means it can be moved. In fact that word is used to define a specific version of an item, typically a smaller/lighter version.
But good effort tying to move the goalpost when you realise the argument is lost. What you were actually trying to tell me is that a six inch blacksmiths leg vice doesn't weigh 60-70kg and you arrive at that conclusion because you suggest if it was, it could not be moved on such a trolley. You are wrong on both counts.
Your semantic argument regarding "portability" has some merit but I merely threw that in for comedic relief. I didn't realise you were seriously suggesting a trolley like that couldn't move a heavy vice as the basis for your argument.
Is this the five minute version or the full half hour?

Question:
Are these types of vices supposed to be used with wood strips permanently affixed? Or can they be used plain?
I could cut some new ply for it and mount that but just wondering is they can also be used bare. Maybe the sacrificial wood gives the same effect as soft jaws and increases the clamping area at the same time.
The static jaw with its wooden jaw is also fitted flush to the bench skirt to allow larger jobs to be held.Traditionally fitted with soft wood jaws to protect the wood item being worked on.
The wooden jaws extending past the metal parts to give protection and prevention of damage to the tools.
